Michigan's 18th Congressional District
Michigan's 18th congressional district is an obsolete United States congressional district in Michigan. The first Representative to Congress elected from the 18th district, George Anthony Dondero, took office in 1953, after reapportionment due to the 1950 census. In 1933, Dondero had previously been the first representative elected from 17th district. From 1982 until its demise the 18th district included parts of three counties. Walled Lake, Michigan
Walled Lake is a city in Oakland County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 6,999 at the 2010 census. The city is bordered by Commerce Township on the north and the city of Novi on the south. As a western suburb of Metro Detroit, Walled Lake is about northwest of Detroit. History The town's name is said to have been given by the first American settler, Walter Hewitt, in 1825. Upon his arrival, he noticed what appeared to be a stone wall along the western bank of a nearby lake, possibly constructed by earlier Potawatomi Indian tribes. Walled Lake was a village inhabited by Ojibwa and Potowatamie people until about 1830. It appears that these people had relocated from an earlier village in the area that is today Southfield. The 1958 United States House of Representatives elections was an election for the United States House of Representatives in 1958 which occurred in the middle of Dwight Eisenhower's second term. The economy was suffering the Recession of 1958, which Democrats blamed on Eisenhower. The President's Republican Party lost 48 seats in this midterm election, increasing the Democratic Party's majority to a commanding level. William Broomfield
William S. Broomfield, (April 28, 1922 – February 20, 2019) was an American politician from the U.S. state of Michigan. Early life Broomfield, the son of Scevillian C. and Fern Broomfield was born in Royal Oak, Michigan. His father was a dentist. He graduated from Royal Oak High School in 1940 and attended Michigan State College (now Michigan State University) at East Lansing. During the Second World War, he served in the United States Army Air Corps. After the war, he engaged in the real-estate and property-management business.
