Michigan's 15th Senate District
Michigan's 15th Senate district is one of 38 districts in the Michigan Senate. The 15th district was created by the 1850 Michigan Constitution, as the 1835 constitution only permitted a maximum of eight senate districts. It has been represented by Democrat Jeff Irwin since 2023, succeeding Republican Jim Runestad. Geography District 15 encompasses parts of Lenawee, Monroe, and Washtenaw counties. 2011 Apportionment Plan District 15, as dictated by the 2011 Apportionment Plan, covered western Oakland County in the outer suburbs of Detroit, including the communities of Novi, West Bloomfield Township, Commerce Township, White Lake Township, Wixom, Lyon Township, South Lyon, Walled Lake, and most of Northville. Jeff Irwin (politician)
Jeff Irwin (born June 19, 1977) is an American activist, progressive and politician serving as a member of the Michigan Senate. A member of the Democratic Party, he served on the Washtenaw County Board of Commissioners from 1999 to 2010, and in the Michigan House of Representatives from 2011 to 2017. From 2019 to 2022, in the Michigan Senate, he represented the 18th Senate district, which encompassed the cities of Ann Arbor, Saline, Ypsilanti, and Milan (portion) and the townships of Ann Arbor, Pittsfield, York, Augusta, Salem, Superior, and Ypsilanti. He replaced Rebekah Warren, who was term limited. Irwin now represents the state senate's 15th district, which encompasses all of Barry County, as well as parts of Allegan, Calhoun, Ionia, Kalamazoo, and Kent counties. White Lake Township, Michigan
White Lake Charter Township is a charter township of Oakland County in the U.S. state of Michigan. Together with its two unincorporated communities, the township makes up part of the Detroit metropolitan area outskirts. As of the 2010 census, the township population was 30,019. The Michigan House of Representatives is the lower house of the Michigan Legislature. There are 110 members, each of whom is elected from constituencies having approximately 77,000 to 91,000 residents, based on population figures from the 2010 U.S. Census. Its composition, powers and duties are established in Article IV of the Michigan Constitution. Members are elected in even-numbered years and take office at 12 p.m. (EST) on January 1 following the November general election. Michigan's 14th Congressional District
Michigan's 14th congressional district was a congressional district that stretched from eastern Detroit westward to Farmington Hills, then north to the suburb of Pontiac. From 1993 to 2013, it was based entirely in Wayne County. It was last represented by Brenda Lawrence. According to Michigan's law on redistricting, the highest numbered district must be in the southeast corner of the state. However, despite being the highest numbered district, the 14th district was not in the southeast corner of the state; the 7th district was. After the 2020 U.S. census, Michigan's 14th district was removed in the 2020 United States redistricting cycle. Michigan's 11th Congressional District
Michigan's 11th congressional district is a United States congressional district northwest of Detroit, comprising portions of northwestern Wayne and southwestern Oakland counties. Until 1993, the district covered the state's Upper Peninsula and the northernmost portion of the Lower Peninsula (a.k.a. Northern Michigan). In redistricting that year, it was shifted to the outer Detroit area. Its former geographical area is now the state's first district. Its current configuration dates from 2003. Population growth in the Detroit suburbs resulted in redistricting to create a new district in that region, even as Michigan lost a district overall after the census. Northville, Michigan
Northville is a city in Oakland and Wayne counties in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 6,119 at the 2020 census. Northville is a suburb of Metro Detroit and is located about west of the city of Detroit and northeast of Ann Arbor. Part of the city is in Oakland County and is surrounded by the city of Novi, while the other part is in Wayne County and is surrounded by Northville Township. Northville is served by Northville Public Schools. History Settlement Northville was first settled by European Americans in 1825, and was incorporated as a Village in 1867. Walled Lake, Michigan
Walled Lake is a city in Oakland County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 6,999 at the 2010 census. The city is bordered by Commerce Township on the north and the city of Novi on the south. As a western suburb of Metro Detroit, Walled Lake is about northwest of Detroit. History The town's name is said to have been given by the first American settler, Walter Hewitt, in 1825. Upon his arrival, he noticed what appeared to be a stone wall along the western bank of a nearby lake, possibly constructed by earlier Potawatomi Indian tribes. Walled Lake was a village inhabited by Ojibwa and Potowatamie people until about 1830. It appears that these people had relocated from an earlier village in the area that is today Southfield.
