Michigan's 13th Senate District
Michigan's 13th Senate district is one of 38 districts in the Michigan Senate. The 13th district was created by the 1850 Michigan Constitution, as the 1835 constitution only permitted a maximum of eight senate districts. It has been represented by Democrat Rosemary Bayer since 2023, following her victory over Republican Jason Rhines. Geography District 13 encompasses parts of Oakland and Wayne counties. 2011 Apportionment Plan District 13, as dictated by the 2011 Apportionment Plan, covered eastern Oakland County in the northern suburbs of Detroit, including Troy, Rochester Hills, Royal Oak, Berkley, Clawson, Birmingham, Bloomfield Hills, and Rochester. Bloomfield Hills, Michigan
Bloomfield Hills is a small city (5.04 sq. miles) in Oakland County in the U.S. state of Michigan. It is a northern suburb of Metro Detroit and is approximately northwest of Downtown Detroit. Except a small southern border with the city of Birmingham, the city is almost completely surrounded by Bloomfield Township, but the city and township are administered separately. As of the 2020 census, the city's population was 4,460. History On June 28, 1820, Oakland County was divided into two townships: Pontiac Township and Bloomfield Township, the latter covering the southern part of the county that would include West Bloomfield Township, Royal Oak and Southfield. Marshall, Michigan
Marshall is a U.S. city in Michigan. It is the county seat of Calhoun County. The population was 7,088 at the 2010 census. Marshall is best known for its cross-section of 19th- and early 20th-century architecture. It has been referred to by the keeper of the National Register of Historic Places as a "virtual textbook of 19th-Century American architecture." Its historic center is the Marshall Historic District, one of the nation's largest architecturally significant National Historic Landmark Districts. Whig Party (United States)
The Whig Party was a political party in the United States during the middle of the 19th century. Charles Dickey (politician)
Charles William “C.W.” Dickey (6 July 1871 – 25 April 1942) was an American architect famous for developing a distinctive style of Hawaiian architecture. He was known not only for designing some of the most famous buildings in Hawaii—such as the Alexander & Baldwin Building, Halekulani Hotel, Kamehameha Schools campus buildings—but also for influencing a cadre of notable successors, including Hart Wood, Cyril Lemmon, Douglas Freeth, Roy Kelley, and Vladimir Ossipoff. Michigan House Of Representatives
The Michigan House of Representatives is the lower house of the Michigan Legislature. There are 110 members, each of whom is elected from constituencies having approximately 77,000 to 91,000 residents, based on population figures from the 2010 U.S. Census. Its composition, powers and duties are established in Article IV of the Michigan Constitution. Members are elected in even-numbered years and take office at 12 p.m. (EST) on January 1 following the November general election. Michigan's 11th Congressional District
Michigan's 11th congressional district is a United States congressional district northwest of Detroit, comprising portions of northwestern Wayne and southwestern Oakland counties. Until 1993, the district covered the state's Upper Peninsula and the northernmost portion of the Lower Peninsula (a.k.a. Northern Michigan). In redistricting that year, it was shifted to the outer Detroit area. Its former geographical area is now the state's first district. Its current configuration dates from 2003. Population growth in the Detroit suburbs resulted in redistricting to create a new district in that region, even as Michigan lost a district overall after the census. The 11th district was represented by Thad McCotter from 2003 until his resignation on July 6, 2012. He was replaced by Democrat David Curson, who won a special election on November 6, 2012.
