Michelle Beckley
Michelle Jane Beckley (born November 28, 1969) is a former Democratic Party (United States), Democratic member of the Texas House of Representatives from Texas House of Representatives, District 65, District 65. She was first elected in November 2018, defeating incumbent Republican Party (United States), Republican Ron Simmons (politician), Ron Simmons. Texas' 65th district represents parts of southern Denton County. She did not run for reelection in 2022. She instead ran for Lieutenant Governor of Texas in 2022 Texas lieutenant gubernatorial election#Democratic primary, 2022. She was defeated by Mike Collier in the Democratic primary. Beckley briefly ran for the Democratic nomination for the representative of Texas's 24th congressional district. District 65 is a district of the Texas House of Representatives that serves a portion of Denton County. The current representative is Kronda Thimesch, who was elected in 2022. Democrat Beckley could not run for re-election in 2022, as 2021 redistricting resulted in her being drawn outside of the district's new boundaries. A bathroom bill is the common name for legislation or a statute that denies access to public toilets by gender or transgender identity. Born alive laws in the United States are fetal rights laws that extend various criminal laws, such as homicide and assault, to cover unlawful death or other harm done to a fetus in uterus or to an infant that is no longer being carried in pregnancy and exists outside of its mother. The basis for such laws stems from advances in medical science and social perception, which allow a fetus to be seen and medically treated as an individual in the womb and perceived socially as a person, for some or all of the pregnancy. Such laws overturn the common law legal principle that until physically born, a fetus or unborn child does not have independent legal existence and therefore cannot be the victim of such crimes.
