Michelangelo Spada
Michelangelo Spada () was an Italian painter in Verona. He should not be confused with the 16th century Count Michelangelo Spada of Terni who was chamberlain of Pope Julius III. Biography The son of Marcantonio Spada, a merchant, he trained initially under Simone Brentana (1656 – 1742), then traveled to Bologna to work under Giovanni Giuseppe dal Sole. In Bologna, he painted for the palace of the count Ercole Giusti. He painted two canvases, now lost, depicting ''David playing Harp with Angels'' and ''Angels playing music''. Another lost painting was the main altarpiece for the church of the Filippini in Verona, depicting the ''Assumption of the Virgin with the Holy Trinity, and San Phillip Neri''. He also painted for the church of Santa Caterina della Ruota, including one depicting events of the Apocalypse by St John: the ''Woman of Babylon on the seven headed beast''; but also the ''Fall of Lucifer'', an ''Immaculate Conception''; and a ''God the father''. Pope Julius III ( la, Iulius PP. III; it, Giulio III; 10 September 1487 – 23 March 1555), born Giovanni Maria Ciocchi del Monte, was head of the Catholic Church and ruler of the Papal States from 7 February 1550 to his death in March 1555. Giovanni Gioseffo dal Sole (10 December 1654 – 22 July 1719) was an Italian painter and engraver from Bologna, active in the late-Baroque period. Upon the death of Carlo Cignani, Gioseffo dal Sole became among the most prominent painters in Bologna, described as the ''Guido Moderno''. Biography His father, Giovanni Antonio Maria, also called ''Mochino de` Paesi'' due to his ambidextrous dexterity, was a landscape painter who trained with Francesco Albani. Sant'Anastasia (Verona)
Sant'Anastasia is a church of the Dominican Order in Verona, northern Italy. In Gothic style, it is located in the most ancient part of the city, near the Ponte Pietra. History The current church was started in 1280 and completed in 1400, designed by the Dominican friars Fra' Benvenuto da Imola and Fra' Nicola da Imola. It took its name from a pre-existing temple built by King Theoderic the Great upon which was built the actual church. Since 1307, it is in fact co-entitled to St. Peter of Verona, martyr and co-patron of the city. Consecrated only in 1471, until 1808 the church was held by the Dominicans. The 72 m tall belltower had four bells in 1460, the fifth was added in 1650. In the 1839, the 9 bells were cast and tuned in C; they are rung in Veronese bellringing art by a local team founded in 1776.
