Michel De Cubières
Michel, chevalier de Cubières (27 September 1752 – 23 August 1820) was an 18th-century French writer, known under the pen-names of ''Palmézaux'' and ''Dorat-Cubières'', taking the latter name as he had Claude Joseph Dorat as his master. He was born in Roquemaure, Gard, and was the brother of Louis Pierre de Cubières. He wrote short verses for the ''Almanachs'' and the ''Étrennes lyriques'' of the time, and a large number of plays and "écrits de circonstance". He backed the French Revolution, being made secretary to the Paris Commune and pronouncing an Elogy on Jean-Paul Marat. He was a lover of Fanny de Beauharnais and collaborated, with Claude Joseph Dorat, on some of her writings. He died in Paris, aged 67. Claude Joseph Dorat
Claude Joseph Dorat (31 December 1734 – 29 April 1780) was a French writer, also known as Le Chevalier Dorat. He was born in Paris, of a family consisting of generations of lawyers, and he joined the corps of the king's musketeers. He became fashionable for his work, ''Réponse d'Abélard à Héloise'' ("Abelard's Answer to Heloise"), and followed up this first success with a number of heroic epistles, ''Les Victimes de l'amour, ou lettres de quelques amants célébres'' (1776) ("Victims of Love, or Letters from some famous lovers"). Besides light verse he wrote comedies, fables and, among other novels, ''Les Sacrifices de lamour, ou lettres de la vicomtesse de Senanges et du chevalier de Versenay'' (1771). He tried to cover his failures as a dramatist by buying up large numbers of seats for performances, and his books were lavishly illustrated by good artists and expensively produced, in order to secure their success. Publius Vergilius Maro (; traditional dates 15 October 7021 September 19 BC), usually called Virgil or Vergil ( ) in English, was an ancient Roman poet of the Augustan period. He composed three of the most famous poems in Latin literature: the ''Eclogues'' (or ''Bucolics''), the ''Georgics'', and the epic ''Aeneid''. Pitou 1985, p. 367, gives his date of death as 19 February 1820. was a prolific French dramatist, poet and librettist. His play ''La Réunion du six août'' was one of the longest-running patriotic pieces during the time of the French Revolution with 52 performances at the Paris Opéra. The Théâtre du Marais has been the name of several theatres and theatrical troupes in Paris, France. The original and most famous theatre of the name operated in the 17th century. The name was briefly revived for a revolutionary theatre in 1791, and revived again in 1976. The present-day Théâtre du Marais operates at 37, rue Volta in the 3rd arrondissement of Paris. One-act Play
A one-act play is a play that has only one act, as distinct from plays that occur over several acts. One-act plays may consist of one or more scenes. The 20-40 minute play has emerged as a popular subgenre of the one-act play, especially in writing competitions. One act plays make up the overwhelming majority of Fringe Festival shows including at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. The origin of the one-act play may be traced to the very beginning of recorded Western drama: in ancient Greece, '' Cyclops'', a satyr play by Euripides, is an early example. Pierre Corneille
Pierre Corneille (; 6 June 1606 – 1 October 1684) was a French tragedian. He is generally considered one of the three great seventeenth-century French dramatists, along with Molière and Racine. Friedrich Ludwig Schröder (3 November 1744 – 3 September 1816) was a German actor, manager, dramatist and prominent masonic leader. He was born in Schwerin. Shortly after his birth, his mother, Sophie Charlotte Bierreichel (1714–1792), separated from her husband, and, joining a theatrical company, toured with success in Poland and Russia.
