Michel Mortier
Michel Mortier (1925 – 22 May 2015) was a French furniture designer, interior designer and architect who was known for his modern designs. Life Michel Mortier was born in Paris in 1925. He was admitted to the ''École des arts appliqués à l’industrie'' (School of Industrial Art), where he studied under René Gabriel and Louis Sognot. He joined the ''Studium-Louvre'' in 1944, the workshop for modern decorative art run by Etienne-Henri Martin for the Grands Magasins du Louvre department store. The workshop produced designs for the growing number of customers who wanted modern styles of decoration. Mortier's association with Martin led to work with the furniture department of the Bon Marché in Brussels. Mortier was discovered by Marcel Gascoin, a central figure in French post-war design who surrounded himself with young talent to produce furniture sets. René Gabriel
René Gabriel (14 September 1899 – 30 October 1950) was a French decorative artist and designer who specialized in furniture series (''meuble de série''). He had a clean, logical style that inspired many of the new designers in the years after World War II (1939–45). The prestigious ''Prix René Gabriel'' continues to be awarded to French designers for modern designs that can be mass-produced. Early career René Gabriel was born on 14 September 1899 in Maisons-Alfort, Paris. He studied at the ''École Germain Pilon'' from 1912 to 1914, and at the ''École nationale supérieure des arts décoratifs'' (ENSAD) from 1914 to 1917. Expo 67
The 1967 International and Universal Exposition, commonly known as Expo 67, was a general exhibition from April 27 to October 29, 1967. It was a category One World's Fair held in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. It is considered to be one of the most successful World's Fairs of the 20th century with the most attendees to that date and 62 nations participating. It also set the single-day attendance record for a world's fair, with 569,500 visitors on its third day. Expo 67 was Canada's main celebration during its centennial year. The fair had been intended to be held in Moscow, to help the Soviet Union celebrate the Russian Revolution's 50th anniversary; however, for various reasons, the Soviets decided to cancel, and Canada was awarded it in late 1962. The Centre national des arts plastiques (National Centre for Visual Arts, Cnap) is a French institution established in 1982 under the Ministry of Culture and Communication that promotes creation of visual arts. Prix René Gabriel
Prix was an American power pop band formed in Memphis, Tennessee, in 1975 by Tommy Hoehn and Jon Tiven. The group ended up primarily as a studio project. Its recordings were produced by Tiven along with former Big Star member Chris Bell, who also played guitar and sang backup vocals. Prix is also famous of Banjo playing. Alex Chilton also participated in the recordings, along with session drummer Hilly Michaels. Although the group generated some major record label interest—notably from Mercury Records and Columbia/CBS Records—it ultimately only released a double A-side single on Ork Records in 1977 and a single on Miracle Records in 1978. Its only live performance came at a CBS Records showcase in 1976. In 1977, just as Ork Records released the first single and booked the group at CBGB, Prix broke up due both to Hoehn's unwillingness to remain in New York and to creative differences. Etienne-Henri Martin
Etienne-Henri Martin (7 April 1905 – 1997) was a French designer and decorator whose work combined elements of classic and avant-garde French design. He undertook many private and public decoration projects, and led the design workshops of major department stores in France and Belgium. From 1950 he was a professor at the ''École nationale supérieure des arts décoratifs''. Life Etienne Henri Martin was born in Paris on 7 April 1905.
