Michael Malitowski is a ballroom dancer, a former World Latin Dance Champion with his partner Joanna Leunis. World Latin Dance Champion
This page lists the official World Champions – Professional Latin of the World Dance Council (WDC). The championships are authorized and organized under the auspices of the WDC, and held annually in the last quarter of each year. The competition comprises five dances: Cha-Cha-Cha, Samba, Rumba, Paso Doble and Jive, as defined in ballroom dancing terms. Official World Championships have been held in the Latin section of ballroom dancing since they were organised by the ICBD in 1959. The ICBD was renamed WD&DSC and has been renamed again to its present title. The WDC represents all the major professional DanceSport countries. Joanna Leunis
Joanna Leunis (born May 22, 1981 in Rocourt, Liège, Belgium), is a professional Latin ballroom dancer. With Michael Malitowski, she is a former professional World Latin Dance Champion and the current International Latin American Dance Champion. The couple represented Poland until 2011, and then choosing to represent England until their retirement in 2015. At the age of 8, she suffered from a blood disease similar to leukemia, but recovered after a year on bedrest. Joanna speaks several languages, including French, English, Dutch and German, and is reportedly learning Italian. Joanna’s dance background includes training in ballet, tap and ballroom and Latin American dance. Prior to her partnership with Michael Malitowski, Joanna had several successful partnerships. Blackpool Dance Festival
The 8-day Blackpool Dance Festival is the world's first and most famous annual ballroom dance competition of international significance, held in the Empress Ballroom at the Winter Gardens, Blackpool, England, since 1920. It is also the largest ballroom competition: in 2013, 2953 couples from 60 countries took part in the festival. As of the early 21st century the festival is held in May. It covers ballroom and Latin American dancing, American smooth and incorporates the British Open Championships in categories of adult amateur and professional couples and formation teams.
