André Michaux
André Michaux, also styled Andrew Michaud, (8 March 174611 October 1802) was a French botanist and explorer. He is most noted for his study of North American flora. In addition Michaux collected specimens in England, Spain, France, and even Persia. His work was part of a larger European effort to gather knowledge about the natural world. Michaux's contributions include ''Histoire des chênes de l'Amérique'' (1801; "The Oaks of North America") and ''Flora Boreali-Americana'' (1803; "The Flora of North America") which continued to be botanical references well into the 19th century. François André Michaux (16 August 1770 – 23 October 1855) was a French botanist, son of André Michaux and the namesake of Michaux State Forest in Pennsylvania. Michaux ''père'' botanized in North America for nearly a dozen years (1785–96) as royal collector for France. Travels Michaux accompanied his father to the United States, and his ''Histoire des arbres forestiers de l'Amérique septentrionale'' (three volumes, 1810–13) contains the results of his explorations, giving an account of the distribution and the scientific classification of the principal American timber trees north of Mexico and east of the Rocky Mountains. Henri Michaux
Henri Michaux (; 24 May 1899 – 19 October 1984) was a Belgian-born French poet, writer and painter. Michaux is renowned for his strange, highly original poetry and prose, and also for his art: the Paris Museum of Modern Art and the Guggenheim Museum in New York had major shows of his work in 1978 (see below, Visual Arts). His texts chronicling his psychedelic experiments with LSD and mescaline, which include ''Miserable Miracle'' and ''The Major Ordeals of the Mind and the Countless Minor Ones'', are well known. So are his idiosyncratic travelogues and books of art criticism. Lightfoot Solomon Michaux (November 7, 1885 – October 20, 1968) was an African-American evangelist. Michaux was an early pioneer in radio and television evangelism, an innovative real estate developer, F.B.I. provocateur, an astute businessman, a newspaper publisher, and a restaurateur. He founded seven East Coast Church of God congregations. He was also the founder of the National Memorial to the Progress of the Colored Race in America, an 1100-acre farm on the James River in James City County, Virginia. Early life Michaux was born in Newport News, Virginia, to John Michaux and May Blanche. His father was a fish seller and grocer in downtown Newport News. Henry McKinley "Mickey" Michaux Jr. (born September 4, 1930) is an American civil rights activist and United States Democratic Party, Democratic member of the North Carolina General Assembly. He represented the state's thirty-first House district from 1983 to 2019 and previously served from 1973 through 1977. The district included constituents in Durham County, North Carolina, Durham County. Upon his retirement, Michaux was the longest-serving member of the North Carolina General Assembly.
