Cal.) is the federal United States district court whose jurisdiction comprises the following counties of California: Alameda, Contra Costa, Del Norte, Humboldt, Lake, Marin, Mendocino, Monterey, Napa, San Benito, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, and Sonoma. John Anthony Mendez (born September 4, 1955) is a senior United States district judge of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of California. Early life and education Mendez was born in Oakland, California in 1955 and raised in San Leandro, California. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Stanford University in 1977. He then obtained a Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School in 1980, where he was a member of the Board of Student Advisers.
