Michael Wise (musician)
Michael Wise (1648–1687) was an English organist and composer. He sang as a child in the choir of the Chapel Royal and served as a countertenor in St George's Chapel, Windsor, from 1666 until, in 1668, he was appointed organist and choirmaster at Salisbury Cathedral. In 1676 he became a Gentleman of the Chapel Royal, and in the last year of his life was Master of the Children at St Paul's Cathedral. He was killed during a confrontation with a Salisbury night watchman: "He had quarrelled with his wife on some trivial matter, and rushed out of his house. The watchman met him while he was yet boiling with rage, and commanding him to stand and give an account of himself, he struck the guardian of the peace to the ground, who in return aimed a blow at his assailant with his bill, which broke his skull, of the consequence whereof he died." Michael John Wise
Michael John Wise CBE, Military Cross, MC (17 August 1918 – 13 October 2015) was a British academic who served as a professor of geography at the University of London. Early life Michael Wise was born in Stafford in 1918, son of Harry Cuthbert Wise and Sarah Evelyn Wise. Education After attending Saltley Secondary School, Birmingham, he attended the University of Birmingham where he completed his BA in Geography in 1939. After war service he returned to Birmingham as an assistant lecturer and lecturer, gaining a Doctor of Philosophy, PhD in 1951. It was at this point that he met Gordon Warwick, a fellow assistant lecturer, who became a lifelong friend, with Wise being godfather to the latter's daughter. Michael Allen Wise (June 5, 1964 – August 21, 1992) was a professional American football defensive end in the National Football League. He played five seasons for the Los Angeles Raiders (1986–1990) and the Cleveland Browns (1991). Mike Wise is an American sports columnist, feature writer and sports television personality. He was most recently a senior writer for ''The Undefeated,'' a digital property of ESPN intersecting sports, race and culture, and before ESPN worked for a combined 21 years at The New York Times and The Washington Post. Career Wise was an award-winning sports columnist with ''The Washington Post'' from May 2004 to December 2014. In November 2014 he was plucked by ESPN to be a prominent voice and feature writer for The Undefeated, the network's new digital venture. Mike Wise (politician)
Mike Wise is a former member of the Ohio House of Representatives. He was first elected in 1992 from the 15th Ohio House District. He defeated the Democratic incumbent, Frank Mahnic, Jr. Wise was reelected in 1994 and 1996. The most significant legislation that Wise wrote was HB 269 that placed the Mayor of Cleveland, then Michael R. White, in charge of the Cleveland school system. In 1998, he ran for Cuyahoga County Auditor against the incumbent Frank Russo and was defeated. From 1999 to 2000, Mike managed the Cleveland office of then Governor Bob Taft. From 2000 to 2006, Mike was the Co-Chairman of the Cuyahoga County Republican Party and was involved in the Ohio legal battles surrounding the election and reelection of George W.
