Michael Walsh (British Army Officer)
Major General Michael John Hatley Walsh, (10 June 1927 – 13 October 2015) was a British Army officer. He was the Scout Association's Chief Scout from 1982 to 1988. Education Walsh was born on 10 June 1927 in Harrogate, West Riding of Yorkshire. He was educated at two independent schools: at Clifton House School in Harrogate, Yorkshire and at Sedbergh School in Cumbria, and was a member of the local Scout Troop. He attained the King's Scout Award with the added distinction of Gold Cords, indicating it as the highest award available in Scouting at the time. Military career Walsh joined the King's Royal Rifle Corps as a rifleman in 1944 and was commissioned in 1945. He spent the winter of 1945–46 in northern Italy guarding against incursion by Josip Broz Tito's partisans. Michael Walsh (July 27, 1858 – June 29, 1913) was a chief machinist serving in the United States Navy who received the Medal of Honor for bravery. Biography Walsh was born July 27, 1858, in Swansea, Wales. He arrived in New York aboard the ship ''Jeremiah Thompson'' on May 28, 1864. After joining the U.S. Navy he was stationed aboard the as a chief machinist. On January 21, 1903, the ''Leyden'' was wrecked. For his actions during the incident received the Medal of Honor on December 26, 1903.
