Michael W. Hoover
Michael W. Hoover (born December 21, 1951) is an American lawyer and retired jurist from Wausau, Wisconsin. He was a judge of the Wisconsin Court of Appeals for 18 years in the Wausau-based 3rd district, serving from 1997 to 2015. Life and career Hoover was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and was raised in the neighboring city of Wauwatosa. Hoover graduated with honors from the University of Wisconsin–Madison in 1974 and cum laude from the University of Wisconsin Law School in 1978. He is a member of the Order of the Coif. From 1978 until 1980, he served as an assistant district attorney in Marathon County; from 1980 to 1988, he worked in private practice and as an assistant city attorney in Wausau. In 1988, Hoover was elected to the Marathon County Circuit Court. In 1997, Hoover contested a vacant seat on District III of the Wisconsin Court of Appeals, chambered in Wausau. Wisconsin Court Of Appeals
The Wisconsin Court of Appeals is an intermediate appellate court that reviews contested decisions of the Wisconsin circuit courts. The Court of Appeals was created in August 1978 to alleviate the Wisconsin Supreme Court's rising number of appellate cases. Published Court of Appeals opinions are considered binding precedent until overruled by the Supreme Court; unpublished opinions are not. The Court hears most appeals in three-judge panels, but appeals of circuit court decisions in misdemeanor, small claims, and municipal ordinance cases are decided by a single judge. Marathon County is a county located in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. As of the 2020 census, the population was 138,013. Marathon County's seat is Wausau. Gary E. Sherman (born May 5, 1949) is a retired American lawyer and Democratic Party (United States), Democratic politician from Bayfield County, Wisconsin. Order Of The Coif
The Order of the Coif is an honor society for United States law school graduates. The name is a reference to the ancient English order of advocates, the serjeants-at-law, whose courtroom attire included a coif—a white lawn or silk skullcap, which came to be represented by a round piece of white lace worn on top of the advocate's wig. A student at an American law school who earns a Juris Doctor degree and graduates in the top 10 percent of their class is eligible for membership if the student's law school has a chapter of the Order.
