Michael Sondes
Sir Michael Sondes (died 10 November 1617) of Throwley, Kent, was an English Member of Parliament. He was born the second son of Anthony Sondes (died 1575) of Throwley, Kent, succeeded his elder brother in 1593 and was knighted in 1598. He was a Justice of the Peace for Kent by 1579 and for Surrey by 1601. He was appointed High sheriff of Kent for 1584–85 and 1593–94. He was a Member (MP) of the Parliament of England for Maidstone in 1584 and for Queenborough in 1586, 1589, 1597, 1601 and 1604. Throwley
Throwley is an English village south of Faversham in the Borough of Swale in Kent.The name is recorded in the Doomsday Book as Trevelai, which corresponds with a Brittonic origin, where "Trev" means a settlement or farm house and "Elai" typically relates to a fast moving river or stream (CF. Trelai (showing the loss of terminal "f") in Cardiff). History At the end of the civil wars of 1139-53, King Stephen's chief lieutenant William of Ypres gave the churches of Throwley and Chilham to the Abbey of Saint Bertin in Saint-Omer, France. Throwley Priory was built as a cell of that Benedictine house. It was dissolved as part of Henry IV's general suppression of alien priories in 1414 and granted to Thomas Beaufort, the half-brother of the king's father. Kent
Kent is a county in South East England and one of the home counties. Chatham, Kent
Chatham ( ) is a town located within the Medway unitary authority in the ceremonial county of Kent, England. The town forms a conurbation with neighbouring towns Gillingham, Rochester, Strood and Rainham. The town developed around Chatham Dockyard and several Army barracks, together with 19th-century forts which provided a defensive shield for the dockyard. The Corps of Royal Engineers is still based in Chatham at Brompton Barracks. The Dockyard closed in 1984, but the remaining major naval buildings are an attraction for a flourishing tourist industry. Following closure, part of the site was developed as a commercial port, other parts were redeveloped for business and residential use, and part was used as the Chatham Historic Dockyard museum.
