Michael Prince
Michael J. Prince is a Canadian political scientist and public policy and administration scholar. Prince is the Lansdowne Professor of Social Policy at the University of Victoria in Canada. Academic career Prince received his PhD in Politics from the University of Exeter in 1979. He is also a graduate of Carleton University and Queen's University. Between 1978 and 1987 he was lecturer, assistant professor, and then associate professor in the School of Public Administration at Carleton University. He took up his current position at the University of Victoria in 1987, as the inaugural Lansdowne Chair in Social Policy. Prince is acknowledged nationally and internationally as a leading authority on Canadian social policy and disability issues. He has been a visiting scholar at the University of Edinburgh and Massey College at the University of Toronto as well as an invited speaker at universities of Cambridge, Glasgow, Kent, London, Oxford, Ulster, Washington, and York. The Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal (french: Médaille du jubilé de diamant de la reine Elizabeth II) or The Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal was a commemorative medal created in 2012 to mark the 60th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II's accession in 1952. There are four versions of the medal: one issued by the United Kingdom, another by Canada, the third for the Caribbean realms of Antigua and Barbuda, the Bahamas, Barbados, Grenada, Jamaica, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and the fourth issued by Papua New Guinea. The ribbons used with the Canadian and British versions of the medal are the same, while the ribbon of the Caribbean and the Papua New Guinean medal differ slightly. Inclusion Canada, formerly the Canadian Association for Community Living, is a non-profit organization founded in 1958 to assist in training and socialization of people with intellectual disabilities, then known as ''Mental Retardation''. History The organization was founded as the "Canadian Association for Retarded Children". In 1969, the name was changed, to "Canadian Association for the Mentally Retarded". The current name was adopted in 1985. In 1963, the organization established the "Canadian John F. Kennedy Memorial Fund for Retarded Children". The money raised went to the organization and was used to fund research. A "Canadian Retarded Children's Week" was also established in 1964 for fundraising, to run from May 6 to 16. Council for Canadians with Disabilities (CCD), formerly known as the Coalition of Provincial Organizations of the Handicapped (COPOH), was created by people with disabilities in 1976 to provide support for all people with disabilities who seek the opportunity to go to school, work, volunteer, have a family, and participate in recreational, sport and cultural activities. The CCD is a national human rights organization of people with disabilities working for an accessible and inclusive Canada.
