Michael Pinsky
Michael Pinsky (born in 1967) is a visual artist who uses diverse media such as video, performance, mapping systems and sculpture to explore geopolitical aspects of a site. Through the displacement and conflation of existing objects and activities he critiques the impact of society’s behaviour. He is known particularly for his projects in the public realm. Education Michael Pinsky studied in England at Manchester Polytechnic, the University of Brighton and at the Royal College of Art in London. He was awarded a Doctorate from the University of East London in 2000. United Nations Secretariat Building
The United Nations Secretariat Building is a skyscraper within the headquarters of the United Nations in the Turtle Bay neighborhood of Manhattan in New York City. It contains the offices of the United Nations Secretariat, the executive organ of the United Nations (UN). The building, designed in the International Style, is tall with 39 above-ground stories. It was designed by a group of architects led by Wallace Harrison. 2019 UN Climate Action Summit
The 2019 UN Climate Action Summit was held at the headquarters of the United Nations in New York City on 23 September 2019. The UN 2019 Climate Summit convened on the theme, "Climate Action Summit 2019: A Race We Can Win. A Race We Must Win." The goal of the summit was to further climate action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to prevent the mean global temperature from rising by more than above preindustrial levels. Sixty countries were expected to "announce steps to reduce emissions and support populations most vulnerable to the climate crisis" including France, a number of other European countries, small island countries and India. To increase pressure on political and economic actors to achieve the aims of the summit, a global climate strike was held around the world on 20 September with over four million participants. Science Gallery
Science Gallery is an international group of public science centres, developed from a concept by a group connected to Trinity College Dublin, Ireland. The first Science Gallery was opened in 2008 and housed in the Naughton Institute at Trinity College. Each gallery is operated by a major academic institution in partnership with Science Gallery International and each holds various artistic exhibitions and lectures with a view to science outreach and art-science collaborations. Unlike most science centres, they have no permanent collections, but rather a series of three to four temporary exhibitions each year.
