Michael Middleton (academic)
Michael A. Middleton (also Mike Middleton) is an American academic, a deputy chancellor emeritus, and a professor emeritus at the University of Missouri School of Law. On November 12, 2015, he was appointed interim president of the University of Missouri after the previous president, Timothy Wolfe, resigned as the result of the 2015 University of Missouri protests. Middleton served in this role until March 2017. Middleton received a bachelor's degree from the University of Missouri in 1968 and graduated from the University of Missouri School of Law in 1971, becoming the third black graduate of the school. The University of Missouri School of Law (Mizzou Law or MU Law) is the law school of the University of Missouri. It is located on the university's main campus in Columbia, forty minutes from the Missouri State Capitol in Jefferson City. Timothy Wolfe
Timothy Michael Wolfe (born August 31, 1958) is a former president of the University of Missouri System. His tenure lasted from February 15, 2012 to November 9, 2015, and ended amid controversy surrounding race relations at the university. Early life Wolfe was born in Iowa City, Iowa, and moved to Columbia, Missouri, when he was in fourth grade. He was quarterback of the Rock Bridge High School team that won the class 3A Missouri state high school football championship in 1975. His father was a communications instructor at the University of Missouri from 1967 to 1997 and his mother taught in the Columbia school system from 1968 to 1972 before going on to teach at the Massachusetts School of Law. He matriculated at the University of Missouri, earning a bachelor's degree in personnel management from the Trulaske College of Business in 1980. The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) is a federal agency that was established via the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to administer and enforce civil rights laws against workplace discrimination. The EEOC investigates discrimination complaints based on an individual's race, color, national origin, religion, sex (including sexual orientation, pregnancy, and gender identity), age, disability, genetic information, and retaliation for participating in a discrimination complaint proceeding and/or opposing a discriminatory practice. The commission also mediates and settles thousands of discrimination complaints each year prior to their investigation. Lincoln University (Missouri)
Lincoln University (Lincoln U) is a public, historically black, land-grant university in Jefferson City, Missouri. Founded in 1866 by African-American veterans of the American Civil War, it is a member-school of the Thurgood Marshall College Fund. This was the first black university in the state. In the fall 2021, the university enrolled 1,794 students. History During the Civil War, the 62nd Colored Infantry regiment of the U.S. Army, largely recruited in Missouri, set up educational programs for its soldiers. At the end of the war it raised $6,300 to set up a black school, headed by a white abolitionist officer, Richard Foster and founded by James Milton Turner, a student and protege of John Berry Meachum. Foster opened the Lincoln Institute in Jefferson City in 1866. Lincoln had a black student body, both black and white teachers, and outside support from religious groups.
