Michael Marriott (economist)
Richard Michael Harris Marriott (1926–1975) was a British public figure and economist, and a former head of the London Stock Exchange. Career In 1975, Michael Marriott was Chairman of the London Stock Exchange, Master of the Skinners Company, and President of the FESE. He was the youngest master of the Skinners Company but also was one of the few to die whilst in office. He was also the youngest Chairman of the London Stock Exchange since the Second World War. He died of a heart attack in 1975 aged 49 whilst holding all three of these positions. Personal life Michael Marriott was born in 1926, Bromley, England. On his mother's side he was the nephew of cricketers: Jack Mason, James Mason (cricketer), and Charles Mason. He was a distant cousin of Rugby Union player and England Captain Charles Marriott. The Worshipful Company of Skinners (known as The Skinners' Company) is one of the Livery Companies of the City of London. It was originally an association of those engaged in the trade of skins and furs. It was granted Royal Charter in 1327. The Company's motto is ''To God Only Be All Glory''. Jack Mason
John Richard Mason (26 March 1874 – 15 October 1958), known as Jack Mason, was an English amateur cricketer who played first-class cricket for Kent County Cricket Club between 1893 and 1914, captaining the team between 1898 and 1902. He played for England in five Test matches on A. E. Stoddart's 1897–98 tour of Australia. Over six feet tall, Mason was a right-handed batsman and right-arm fast-medium pace bowler, classified as a genuine all-rounder. James Ernest Mason (29 October 1876 – 8 February 1938) was an English amateur cricketer who played one first-class cricket match for Kent County Cricket Club and for Berkshire County Cricket Club. He served in the British army on the home front during World War I and rose to the rank of Lieutenant-colonel. In civilian life he worked as a solicitor. Charles Marriott (rugby Union)
Charles Marriott was a rugby union international who represented England from 1884 to 1887. He also captained his country. Charles Marriott was born on 15 July 1861 in Rendham, Suffolk. Rugby union and later career Marriott made his international debut on 5 January 1884 at Cardigan Fields, Leeds in the England vs Wales match. Of the 7 matches he played for his national side he was on the winning side on 5 occasions, but he didn't score any points in any of these matches. He played his final match for England on 5 February 1887 at Lansdowne Road in the Ireland vs England match. Marriott taught at Highgate School from 1892 until 1903. Timothy William Marriott is a British television actor, playwright and theatre director. He is known for his role as Gavin Featherly in the BBC sitcom ''The Brittas Empire''. Career Marriott's most noted role was as Gavin Featherly in the BBC leisure centre sitcom ''The Brittas Empire''. It ran for 52 episodes in over six years on BBC One, from 3 January 1991 to 24 February 1997. He later wrote for the stage. ''The Brittas Empire'' is a British sitcom created and originally written by Andrew Norriss and Richard Fegen. Chris Barrie played titular character Gordon Brittas, the well-intended but hugely incompetent manager of the fictional Whitbury New Town Leisure Centre.
