Michael Maranta
Michael Gerard Maranta (born 20 March 1961) is a former Australian cricketer. Maranta was a right-handed batsman who bowled left-arm medium pace. He was born in Brisbane, Queensland. Maranta made his debut in English county cricket for Suffolk in the 1980 Minor Counties Championship against Hertfordshire. He played Minor counties cricket for Suffolk in 1980 and 1981, making 15 Minor Counties Championship appearances. He made his List A debut for Suffolk against Derbyshire in the 1981 NatWest Trophy. In this match, he scored 12 runs before being dismissed by Barry Wood. While in England he also played Second XI cricket for Essex. Returning to Australia, he made his first-class debut for Queensland against New South Wales in the 1982–83 Sheffield Shield. Barry Wood (cricketer)
Barry Wood (born 26 December 1942) is an English former cricketer, who played 12 Test matches for the England cricket team as an opening batsman, as well as 13 One Day Internationals. He played first-class cricket for Yorkshire in 1964, for Lancashire from 1966 to 1979, and for Derbyshire from 1980 to 1983, where he was the captain for three seasons. Life and career Wood was born in Ossett, Yorkshire, England. He made his first-class debut for Yorkshire in 1964 but, due to limited opportunities, transferred to Lancashire in 1966, where he became the first ever Yorkshireman to score two Roses hundreds (reaching his century with a six on both occasions) in the same season against his native county. In cricket, a player's bowling average is the number of runs they have conceded per wicket taken. The lower the bowling average is, the better the bowler is performing. It is one of a number of statistics used to compare bowlers, commonly used alongside the economy rate and the strike rate to judge the overall performance of a bowler. When a bowler has taken only a small number of wickets, their bowling average can be artificially high or low, and unstable, with further wickets taken or runs conceded resulting in large changes to their bowling average. The One-Day Cup, known as the Marsh One-Day Cup for sponsorship reasons, is an Australian domestic List A 50-over limited-overs cricket tournament. It has had many different names, formats and teams since the inaugural 1969-1970 season. Initially a knockout cup, the competition now features a single round-robin followed by a finals series. In cricket, a player's batting average is the total number of runs they have scored divided by the number of times they have been out, usually given to two decimal places. Since the number of runs a player scores and how often they get out are primarily measures of their own playing ability, and largely independent of their teammates, batting average is a good metric for an individual player's skill as a batter (although the practice of drawing comparisons between players on this basis is not without criticism). Victoria Cricket Team
The Victoria men’s cricket team is an Australian first-class men's cricket team based in Melbourne, Victoria. Sheffield Shield
The Sheffield Shield (currently known for sponsorship reasons as the Marsh Sheffield Shield) is the domestic first-class cricket competition of Australia. The tournament is contested between teams from the six states of Australia. Sheffield Shield is named after Lord Sheffield. Prior to the Shield being established, a number of intercolonial matches were played. The Shield, donated by Lord Sheffield, was first contested during the 1892–93 season, between New South Wales, South Australia and Victoria. The New South Wales men's cricket team (formerly named NSW Blues) are an Australian men's professional first class cricket team based in Sydney, New South Wales.
