Michael Maher (Australian Politician)
Michael John Maher (11 July 1936 – 29 September 2013) was an Australian politician. Born in Sydney, he attended De La Salle College Ashfield and the University of Sydney and became a solicitor. A member of the Labor Party, he was elected to the New South Wales Legislative Assembly at the 1973 election, representing the seat of Drummoyne. He held Drummoyne until resigning to contest the 1982 Lowe by-election, caused by the resignation of former Liberal Prime Minister William McMahon. Maher was successful, and held the seat until 1987, when he was defeated by Bob Woods. Michael Maher was described in 2000 by a subsequent ALP Member for Lowe, John Murphy, as 'one of the most genuine and most loved members to grace this House'. John Murray (New South Wales Politician)
John Henry Murray (born 14 July 1939) is an Australian politician. He was a Labor Party member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly from 1982 to 2003, representing the electorate of Drummoyne. Murray was the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly from 1995 until his retirement in 2003. Murray was born in Sydney, and attended Lakemba Primary School, Canterbury Boys High School and Enmore Boys High School. He studied teaching at Sydney Teachers College and the University of Sydney, and went on to teach at Finley High School, Ashfield Boys High School and Picnic Point High School. He was also involved in local politics, serving as an alderman on Drummoyne Municipal Council from 1973 to 1983, including four years as mayor, and serving as a councillor on the Sydney County Council from 1980 to 1984. Reg Coady
Reginald John Francis Coady (28 May 1918 – 13 May 1977) was an Australian politician and a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly from 1954 until 1973. He was a member of the Labor Party (ALP). Coady was born in Forest Lodge and was the son of a carter. He was educated at Patrician Brothers High School, Forest Lodge and qualified as a book-keeper, eventually becoming the chief clerk for Tooheys Brewery. He was an official on the Federated Clerks' Union and became involved in community organisations in the Glebe area including the Saint Vincent de Paul Society and the Australian Red Cross. Coady was elected to the parliament as the Labor member for Leichhardt at the 1954 by-election caused by the suicide of the incumbent Labor member and ex-minister Claude Matthews. John Paul Murphy (born 31 May 1950) is a former Australian politician who served as an Australian Labor Party member of the Australian House of Representatives from October 1998 until September 2013, representing Lowe and then Reid, New South Wales. Early life and education John Murphy was born in Dunedoo, New South Wales. He was educated at Waverley College in NSW and worked with the Department of Veterans' Affairs for 20 years before moving to the Merit Protection Review Agency for eight years, including six years as Manager. Murphy served as a Councillor on Drummoyne Council (now part of Canada Bay Council) from 1995 to 1998.
