Michael J. Ahearn
Michael J. Ahearn (born 1956/1957) is an American businessman, co-founder and chairman of First Solar, and founder and managing partner of True North Venture Partners. He received BS in Finance and JD degree from Arizona State University. In 1996, Ahearn started True North Partners, LLC (which later changed to JWMA), an equity investment firm, with John T. Walton. Ahearn was a partner and president of the firm. Ahearn co-founded First Solar in 1999, and was CEO from 2000 to 2009. In 2011, Ahearn launched True North Venture Partners, which funds solar startups. Ahearn is a director of Cox Enterprises, Endeavor, and several True North portfolio companies. First Solar
First Solar, Inc. is an American manufacturer of solar panels, and a provider of utility-scale PV power plants and supporting services that include finance, construction, maintenance and end-of-life panel recycling. First Solar uses rigid thin-film modules for its solar panels, and produces CdTe panels using cadmium telluride (CdTe) as a semiconductor. The company was founded in 1990 by inventor Harold McMaster as Solar Cells, Inc. and the Florida Corporation in 1993 with JD Polk. In 1999 it was purchased by True North Partners, LLC, who rebranded it as First Solar, Inc. The company went public in 2006, trading on the NASDAQ. Its current chief executive is Mark Widmar, who succeeded the previous CEO James Hughes July 1, 2016. First Solar is based in Tempe, Arizona. True North Venture Partners is an American venture capital firm, based in Chicago, Illinois and Phoenix, Arizona. The founder, managing partner and chairman is Michael J. Ahearn, who is also the co-founder and chairman of First Solar. History True North was founded in 2011 with $300 million. The firm's focus is mostly on early stage companies, with investments ranging from $100,000 to $25 million, and geared towards startups across the energy, water, agriculture and waste industries.
