Michael Holmes (politician)
Michael Holmes is a former leader of the UK Independence Party (UKIP), who served as a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) for South West England from 1999 to 2002. He was educated at Sevenoaks School. At the 1997 general election, Holmes unsuccessfully contested the New Forest West constituency. Later that year he was elected leader of UKIP. In 1999 he and two other UKIP candidates were elected to the European Parliament. The following year, he stepped down from the leadership as a result of calling for extended powers for the European Parliament in his maiden speech there in defiance of party policy. The party conference condemned him. He left the party, but continued to sit as an independent MEP until 2002. Michael Holmes is an Australian news anchor and correspondent for CNN International (CNNI), anchoring CNN Newsroom with Michael Holmes since 2019. The shows air between the hours of 12am and 4am Friday through Monday ET. Prior to that he anchored CNNI's ''CNN Today'' with Amara Walker. He has also anchored the 10a ET edition of ''International Desk'' and in early 2013 joined Suzanne Malveaux as co-anchor of CNN USA's ''Around The World'' at noon ET, an hour-long bulletin focusing on international news. Michael Holmes (born 1982) is an American classical saxophonist, originally from Findlay, Ohio. Holmes' degrees are from Bowling Green State University (B.M.E.) and the University of Illinois (M.M. and D.M.A.). His main teachers included John Sampen and Debra Richtmeyer, and has had additional studies with Jean-Marie Londeix, Claude Delangle, Griffin Campbell, Daniel Kientzy, and Eugene Rousseau. Michael is Artist-Teacher of Saxophone as-well-as Head of Woodwinds at Roosevelt University Chicago College of Performing Arts. He was formerly on faculty at the University of Illinois, the College of Wooster, and University of Notre Dame. Lieutenant Colonel Michael Holmes (born 1965), began his national service in the U.S. Army and the National Guard in 1985, and is a military intelligence officer with training in information operations. He attended Admiral Farragut Academy in St. Petersburg, Florida (1978–1980), before graduating from Marine Military Academy in Harlingen, Texas, in 1983. Michael Arthur Holmes (born 9 September 1965) is an English professional footballer who played as a midfielder in the Football League for eight teams during the 1980s and 1990s. Career Born in Bradford, Holmes began his professional career when he joined Bradford City his home town team on a non-contract basis, making his league debut during the 1984–85 season. After only a handful of appearances at Valley Parade, he moved on to Wolverhampton Wanderers in November 1985. He made his Wolves' debut on 30 November 1985 in a 1–1 draw at Cardiff City.
