Michael Doret
Michael Nicholas Doret (born July 19, 1946) is an American designer, lettering artist, and illustrator based in Los Angeles. He has created logos, album covers, magazine covers, and art for various brands in media, advertising, and sports, including ''Wreck-It Ralph'', the New York Knicks, MLB, ''TIME'', ''Playboy'', ''Wired'', ''TV Guide'', Kiss, Capitol Records, Columbia Records, Walt Disney Imagineering, and Universal Studios. He also designed American Eagle postage for the United States Postal Service. Biography Doret grew up in Brooklyn, New York City, near Coney Island and is a graduate of the Cooper Union. He began his work by opening a small design studio in New York and eventually moved to Los Angeles where he lives with his wife. Along with his design studio, Doret owns AlphabetSoup Type Founders which distributes his original font designs through Font Bros., Fontshop, MyFonts and Veer. The Cooper Union
The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art (Cooper Union) is a private college at Cooper Square in New York City. Peter Cooper founded the institution in 1859 after learning about the government-supported École Polytechnique in France. A logo (abbreviation of logotype; ) is a graphic mark, emblem, or symbol used to aid and promote public identification and recognition. It may be of an abstract or figurative design or include the text of the name it represents as in a wordmark. Squirrel Nut Zippers is an American swing and jazz band formed in 1993 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Chapel Hill, North Carolina, by Jimbo Mathus, James "Jimbo" Mathus (vocals and guitar), Tom Maxwell (singer), Tom Maxwell (vocals and guitar), Katharine Whalen (vocals, banjo, ukulele), Chris Phillips (drums), Don Raleigh (bass guitar), and Ken Mosher. It was founded in 1920, and has grown as an industry group, promoting art directors' work through exhibitions and awards, including the annual DESI award for design excellence.
