Michael Dobbyn Hassard
Michael Dobbyn Hassard (1817 – 7 April 1869) was an Irish Conservative Party politician from County Waterford. Biography Hassard was educated at Trinity College Dublin, where graduated with a gold medal (the university's award for an outstanding student), and became a lawyer. In 1846 he married his cousin Anne Hassard, the daughter of Sir Francis John Hassard. They lived at Glenville, County Waterford, and had 2 sons: William and Richard. Irish Conservative Party
The Irish Conservative Party, often called the Irish Tories, was one of the dominant Irish political parties in Ireland in the 19th century. It was affiliated with the Conservative Party in Great Britain. Throughout much of the century it and the Irish Liberal Party were rivals for electoral dominance among Ireland's small electorate within the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, with parties such as the movements of Daniel O'Connell and later the Independent Irish Party relegated into third place. Thomas Meagher (MP)
Thomas Meagher (1796–1874) was an Irish businessman and politician, born and raised in St. John's, Colony of Newfoundland. His father, also named Thomas Meagher (1763–1837), had emigrated from Tipperary to St. John's, Colony of Newfoundland, where he became a successful businessman. The younger Thomas was born in St. John's and returned to Ireland in his 20s to represent his father's business interests, where he prospered. Meagher was Mayor of Waterford in 1843 and 1844, the first Roman Catholic mayor of the city since the penal laws. He was elected at the 1847 general election as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Waterford City. He was re-elected in 1852, and held the seat until he stood down at the 1857 general election. Sir Henry Barron, 1st Baronet
Sir Henry Winston Barron, 1st Baronet DL (15 October 1795 – 19 April 1872) was an Irish baronet and politician, who stood at nine different general elections. Background Born at Ballymil in County Waterford, he was the son of Pierce Barron and his wife Anna, only daughter of Henry Winston. His younger brother was the bishop Edward Barron. Barron was educated at Trinity College, Dublin. Career He entered the British House of Commons for Waterford City in 1832, however he lost his seat in the general election of 1841. In October of the same year, he was created a baronet, of Bellevue, in the County of Kilkenny. A year later, both representatives for the constituency were unseated and Barron was returned to parliament until 1847. He was re-elected in 1848, sitting for the next four years. Robert Keating
Robert Keating was an Irish politician from Cashel in County Tipperary. Biography He was elected at the 1847 general election as a Member of Parliament (MP) for County Waterford, as a Repeal Association candidate. The Times newspaper of London reported that at the time of his election he was employed by the Board of Works a rate of 7s/6d per day, claiming that this proved "beyond a shadow of a doubt" that he was unqualified to be an MP.
