Michael Cussen
Michael Cussen (born 11 April 1984) is an Irish hurler and footballer who played as a full-forward for the Cork senior team. Born in Glanmire, County Cork, Cussen first played competitive hurling and Gaelic football in his youth. He arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of eighteen when he first linked up with the Cork minor football team, before later lining out with the under-21 sides in both codes. He made his senior debut with the footballers in the 2007 championship. Cussen went on to play a key role for Cork, and won one Munster medal as well as being an All-Ireland runner-up on two occasions. In 2010 he switched codes and joined the Cork senior hurling team. At club level Cussen has won three championship medals with Sarsfields. He plays football with its sister club Glanmire. Glanmire () is a suburban town from Cork city centre, in the civil parish of Rathcooney, County Cork, Ireland. Glanmire is within the administrative area of Cork City Council and the Dáil constituency of Cork North-Central. The National Football League (NFL; ga, Sraith Náisiúnta Peile) is an annual Gaelic football competition between the senior county teams of Ireland plus London. Sponsored by Allianz, it is officially known as the Allianz National Football League. The Gaelic Athletic Association organises the league. The winning team receives the New Ireland Cup, presented by the New Ireland Assurance Company. The National Football League is the second most prestigious inter-county Gaelic Football competition after the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship. Dual Players
Dual player or dual star is a term used in Hiberno-English to describe someone who competes in multiple sports — for example, in Victorian Ireland, cricket and hurling. The term today in Gaelic games typically describes a male player who plays both Gaelic football and hurling or, if a female player, a player of ladies' Gaelic football and camogie. The player does not necessarily have to play at the same standard in both sports. The number of dual stars at county level has decreased recently due to the increasing demands placed upon the best players of both sports. Jimmy Barry-Murphy
James Barry-Murphy (born 22 August 1954) is an Irish hurling manager and former hurler, Gaelic footballer and association football player. He was the manager of the senior Cork county hurling team from 2011 to 2015, returning a decade after his first tenure as manager. Barry-Murphy is regarded as one of the most iconic players in the history of Gaelic games. He established himself as a dual player with the St Finbarr's club. A dual four-time All-Ireland medallist with the St Finbarr's senior teams, Barry-Murphy also won a combined total of five Munster medals and ten championship medals. National Hurling League
The National Hurling League is an annual Inter county, inter-county hurling competition featuring teams from Ireland and England. Founded in 1925 by the Gaelic Athletic Association, it operates on a system of promotion and relegation within the league system. The league has 35 teams divided into six divisions, with either five or six teams in each division. Promotion and relegation between these divisions is a central feature of the league. Although primarily a competition for Irish teams, teams from England – currently Lancashire GAA, Lancashire, London GAA, London and Warwickshire GAA, Warwickshire – also take part, while in the past New York GAA, New York also fielded a team for the latter stages of the league. Alan O'Connor (Gaelic Footballer)
Alan O'Connor (born 2 June 1985) is an Irish Gaelic footballer. His league and championship career with the Cork senior team spanned ten seasons from 2008 to 2017. Born in Lucan, Dublin, O'Connor arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of seventeen when he first linked up with the Cork minor team, before later joining the under-21 and junior sides. He made his senior debut in the 2008 championship. O'Connor went on to play a key role on the team for five years, and won one All-Ireland medal, three Munster medals and three National Football League medals. He was an All-Ireland runner-up on one occasion. O'Connor represented the Munster inter-provincial team on a number of occasions throughout his career, winning one Railway Cup medal. At club level he won one championship medal with divisional side Carbery while also playing for St Colum's. O'Connor announced his retirement from inter-county football on 18 November 2013.
