Michael Cooke (footballer)
Michael Cooke (born 17 December 1953) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Hawthorn Football Club, Hawthorn in the Australian Football League, Victorian Football League (VFL). Cooke was the first ever Hawthorn player to make his league debut in a final. Due to indifferent form, full-forward Michael Moncrieff was moved by coach John Kennedy Sr. (footballer), John Kennedy to defence for the 1975 VFL season, 1975 Semi-final against North Melbourne Football Club, North Melbourne at VFL Park, Waverley Oval and Cooke was called up to fill the full-forward position. An Old Carey player, he had put in some impressive performances at full-forward in the reserves, where he teamed up well with brother, centre half-forward Robert. Hawthorn Football Club
The Hawthorn Football Club, nicknamed the Hawks, is a professional Australian rules football club based in Mulgrave, Victoria, that competes in the Australian Football League (AFL). The club was founded in 1902 in the inner-east suburb of Hawthorn, making it the youngest Victorian-based team in the AFL. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). The Australian Football League (AFL) is the only fully professional competition of Australian rules football. Through the AFL Commission, the AFL also serves as the sport's governing body and is responsible for controlling the laws of the game. Michael Moncrieff
Michael Moncrieff (born 19 August 1952) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for Hawthorn in the VFL during the 1970s and early 80s. A tall full forward, Moncrieff was a prolific goalkicker for Hawthorn and topped their goalkicking on five occasions. The two times that he kicked 90 or more goals in a season came in premiership years for Hawthorn, 1976 and 1978. In 1976 he managed a career high 97 goals. In 1977, with the return of champion Tasmanian full-forward Peter Hudson, Moncrieff moved to the backline. He returned full forward in 1978 and in the 1978 Grand Final he kicked four goals. He represented Victoria on three occasions. He kicked 10 goals in a match three times and holds the joint Hawthorn record for most goals in a final, kicking eight in the 1978 Qualifying Final against Collingwood. 1975 VFL Season
The 1975 VFL season was the 79th season of the Victorian Football League (VFL), the highest level senior Australian rules football competition in Victoria. The season featured twelve clubs, ran from 5 April until 27 September, and comprised a 22-game home-and-away season followed by a finals series featuring the top five clubs. The premiership was won by the North Melbourne Football Club, after it defeated by 55 points in the VFL Grand Final. It was North Melbourne's first premiership, making it the last of the league's twelve clubs to win a premiership. The North Melbourne Football Club, nicknamed the Kangaroos, is a professional Australian rules football club. The men's team competes in the Australian Football League (AFL), and the women's team in the AFL Women's (AFLW). The Kangaroos also field a reserves men's team in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Waverley Park (also and originally called VFL Park) was an Australian rules football stadium in Mulgrave, Victoria, Australia. For most of its history, its purpose was as a neutral venue and used by all Victorian-based Victorian Football League/Australian Football League clubs. However, during the 1990s it became the home ground of both the Hawthorn and St Kilda football clubs. It ceased to be used for AFL games from the 2000 season following the opening of Docklands Stadium. It is currently used as a training venue by Hawthorn.
