Michael Bruce (musician)
Michael Owen Bruce (born March 16, 1948) is an American musician. He is the co-founder, rhythm guitarist, keyboardist and backing vocalist for the rock band Alice Cooper. Early life Michael Owen Bruce was born to Alvin and Ruth (Owen) Bruce. The Bruce and Owen families had moved to Arizona from Kansas. The family ancestry includes Cherokee, Scottish, Irish, English and Norman French. Ruth's father, Clarence Glenn Owen, was a veteran of World War I and also a professional baseball player: "Blacky" Owen. "Al" was in the military during the 1940s and Ruth played piano on the radio and performed for many U.S.O. functions. After the military, "Al" worked for The Coca-Cola Company. Michael and his brothers, David and Paul, attended North High School in Phoenix, Arizona. Bruce began his professional music career in the mid-1960s. Michael Bruce (born 22 November 1983) is a Scottish composer and lyricist working in theatre, television and film. He was composer-in-residence at the Donmar Warehouse theatre during Josie Rourke's artistic directorship there from 2012 to 2019. His theatre credits include ''Much Ado About Nothing'' (2011) with David Tennant and Catherine Tate, ''Coriolanus'' (2013) with Tom Hiddleston, ''Twelfth Night'' (2017) with Tamsin Greig and '' Antony & Cleopatra'' (2018) with Ralph Fiennes, as well as the 2021 made-for-TV ''Romeo & Juliet'' with Josh O'Connor and Jessie Buckley. In 2022, he wrote original songs for the Netflix mockumentary ''Hard Cell''. Michael Bruce (born 28 June 1973) is a British entrepreneur, and the co-founder and ex CEO of the online estate agent Purplebricks. After studying Law in Southampton, Bruce embarked upon a legal career before purchasing Midlands estate agent Burchell Edwards with his brother Kenny in 2006, eventually selling it to Connells in 2011. Michael Bruce (poet)
Michael Bruce (27 March 1746 – 5 July 1767) was a Scottish poet and hymnist. Early life Bruce was born at Kinnesswood in the parish of Portmoak, Kinross-shire. His father, Alexander Bruce, was a weaver. Michael was taught to read before he was four years old, and one of his favourite books was a copy of Sir David Lyndsay's works. His attendance at school was often interrupted, because he had to herd cattle on the Lomond Hills in summer, and this early companionship with nature greatly influenced his poetry. A delicate child, he grew up as the pet of his family and friends. He studied Latin and Greek, and at fifteen, when his schooling was completed, a small legacy left to his mother, with some additions from kindly neighbours, enabled him to go to the University of Edinburgh, which he attended during the four winter sessions 1762–1765. Michael Bruce (MP)
Michael Bruce (1787–1861) was a British adventurer, who gained the nickname "Lavelette Bruce" for his part in smuggling Antoine Marie Chamans, comte de Lavalette out of France at the time of the Bourbon Restoration. He is now largely remembered as a lover of Lady Hester Stanhope. He was a Member of Parliament in 1830–1. Life Born in Bombay where his father was a merchant, he was the son of Patrick Craufurd Bruce and his wife Jane Smith, and was educated at Eton College. He matriculated at St John's College, Cambridge in 1806. Later, in 1821, he was admitted to Lincoln's Inn, and was called to the bar in 1826. Bruce did not complete a degree at Cambridge, after a year or so beginning to travel in Europe. It was during his voyages in the Mediterranean and Near East that he encountered Lady Hester Stanhope, on Malta in 1810. Bruce Baronets
There have been four baronetcies created for persons with the surname Bruce, two in the Baronetage of Nova Scotia and two in the Baronetage of the United Kingdom. Two of the creations are extant as of 2010. The Bruce Baronetcy, of Stenhouse in the County of Clackmannan, was created in the Baronetage of Nova Scotia on 29 September 1628 for William Bruce, with remainder to his heirs male whatsoever. He was a descendant of Sir Robert Bruce of Clackmannan (14th century), who was also the ancestor of the ancestor of the Earls of Elgin. The eleventh Baronet was an author and adventurer. Sir Michael William Selby Bruce, 11th Baronet (27 March 1894 – 2 May 1957) was an author and soldier. Early life and education The son of Sir William Waller Bruce, 10th Baronet (1856–1912), of West Drayton, Middlesex, director of an art gallery and his wife Angelica Lady Bruce (died 1917), daughter of General George Selby, Royal Artillery. Michael Bruce entered Abingdon School from October 1907–1910. Career He joined the British South Africa Police as a trooper (1913). After the First World War service with the Royal Artillery at Gallipoli and on the Western Front, Bruce became a traveller, largely in Africa and South America, and an author and newspaper columnist. During the Second World War he served in a barrage balloon unit, with 901 (County of London) squadron, Royal Air Force Regiment, and was wounded again. Michael Bruce (1635–1693) was a Scottish Presbyterianism, Presbyterian minister. He graduated MA at Edinburgh in 1654; was minister of Killinchy, County Down, in 1657; continued to preach, in defiance of the bishop, through 1660; was outlawed in 1664; returned to Scotland in 1666; was sentenced to transportation for field-preaching in July 1668, and imprisoned in London; allowed to return to Killinchy in 1670; driven out by the rebellion in 1688; and was finally minister of Anwoth, Wigtonshire from 1689 until death.
