Michael Bragman
Michael J. Bragman (born August 11, 1940) is an American politician from New York. Biography He was born on August 11, 1940, in Syracuse, Onondaga County, New York. He graduated from Syracuse University in 1963. He entered politics as a Democrat, and was elected to the Cicero Town Council in 1965, and to the Onondaga County Legislature in 1969. He was a member of the New York State Assembly from 1981 to 2001, sitting in the 184th, 185th, 186th, 187th, 188th, 189th, 190th, 191st, 192nd, 193rd and 194th New York State Legislatures. Bragman served as Majority Leader from 1993 to 2000, when he lost his position after leading an attempted coup against Speaker Sheldon Silver. After Bragman announced his intent to overthrow Silver, the incumbent speaker demoted two high-ranking legislators who openly supported Bragman and made clear he would punish others who voted against him. Paul Tokasz (born 1946) is an American politician from New York. He represented District 143 which comprises the towns of Lancaster, and Cheektowaga, and villages of Depew, Lancaster and Sloan, from 1988 to 2006. Biography He was born in 1946, of Polish ancestry. He graduated B.A. in history from Hobart College in 1968, and M.A. in education from Buffalo State College. He taught school at public schools in Buffalo, New York, from 1968 to 1977. He entered politics as a Democrat, and was Clerk of the Erie County Legislature in 1977; Deputy County Clerk (in charge of the Auto Bureau) of Erie County from 1977 to 1986; and First Deputy County Clerk from 1987 to 1988. Sheldon Silver (February 13, 1944 – January 24, 2022) was an American Democratic Party politician, attorney, and convicted felon from New York City who served as speaker of the New York State Assembly from 1994 to 2015. A native of Manhattan's Lower East Side, Silver served in the New York State Assembly from 1977 to 2015. In 1994, he was selected as the Speaker of the Assembly; he held that position for two decades. During this period, Silver was known as one of the most powerful politicians in the state. Silver was arrested on federal corruption charges in early 2015, and resigned as Speaker of the Assembly shortly afterward.
