Michael Biddulph (died 1666)
Michael Biddulph (1610–1666) was an English politician who sat in the House of Commons in 1660. Biddulph was the son of Michael Biddulph of Market Street Lichfield, and his wife Elizabeth Skeffington, daughter of Sir William Skeffington, 1st Baronet of Fisherwick and was baptised on 6 November 1610. He was a soldier and was about to enlist in a royalist regiment in Wiltshire during the English Civil War when his family, who supported the parliamentary cause, recalled him. In 1660, Biddulph was elected Member of Parliament for Lichfield in the Convention Parliament. Biddulph died unmarried at the age of 55 and was buried at Stowe on 3 November 1666. Sir Michael Biddulph, 2nd Baronet
Sir Michael Biddulph, 2nd Baronet (c. 1652 – 20 April 1718), of Elmshurst, Staffordshire and Westcombe, Kent, was an English Whig politician who sat in the English and British House of Commons between 1679 and 1710. Early life Biddulph was the son of Sir Theophilus Biddulph, 1st Baronet and Susanna Highlord, Michael Biddulph. He was educated at St Paul's School and Christ's College, Cambridge. On 31 December 1673, he married Henrietta Maria Witley, daughter of Colonel Richard Witley, in Westminster Abbey in London. He succeeded to his father's baronetcy in April 1683. Career Biddulph stood for Parliament at Lichfield at a by-election of 1678,but was defeated in a hard-fought and costly contest. He was returned as Member of Parliament (MP) for Lichfield at the two general elections of 1679 and at the 1681 English general election. General Sir Michael Anthony Shrapnel Biddulph (30 July 1823 – 23 July 1904) was a British Army officer who became Black Rod, a parliamentary official. Military career Educated at the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich, Biddulph was commissioned into the Royal Artillery in 1843. Posted to India in 1861, he was appointed Deputy Adjutant-General of Artillery in India in 1868, and was promoted major-general in 1869. In 1875, he was made commander of the Rohilkhand district, and in 1878 moved to command the garrison at Quetta, near the Afghanistan border. When the Second Afghan War became imminent, he established a base for operations in southern Afghanistan, taking command of the 2nd division of the Kandahar Field Force when war broke out in November 1878.
