Michael Lee Barnett (born February 1, 1959) is a former Major League Baseball hitting coach, most recently for the Houston Astros, and former replay coordinator for the Cleveland Guardians. Playing career Barnett played catcher at Ohio University, but had his baseball career end following a shoulder injury. Coaching career Barnett had a six-year stint as an assistant administrator of baseball operations for the New York Yankees from 1982 to 1987. After leaving the Yankees, he spent two seasons on the coaching staff at the University of Tennessee from 1988 to 1989. Following that, Barnett served as hitting coach at all levels of the Chicago White Sox organization from 1990 to 1997. Barnett spent four seasons from 1998 to 2001 as hitting coach for Tucson (AAA) in the Arizona Diamondbacks organization. Michael Barnett AM (born 24 January 1946) is a former Australian politician who was a Labor Party member of the Legislative Assembly of Western Australia from 1974 to 1996, representing the seat of Rockingham. He served as Speaker of the Legislative Assembly from 1986 to 1993. Barnett was born in Belper, Derbyshire, England, and briefly attended Trescobeas County Secondary School (in Falmouth, Cornwall). His family migrated to Western Australia in December 1958, and settled in Pinjarra, where he attended Pinjarra High School. Prior to entering politics, Barnett was the owner of a caravan park in Rockingham, one of Perth's southern suburbs. He joined the Labor Party in 1970, and at the 1974 state election successfully contested the newly created seat of Rockingham, narrowly defeating the Liberal candidate.
