Sir Michael Bayldon Barber (born 24 November 1955) is a British educationist, author and global expert on implementation of large-scale system change, education systems and education reform, and was knighted in 2005 for his contributions to improving government. He is the founder and chairman of Delivery Associates, a global advisory firm focussed on working with governments and other public and social impact organisations to help deliver improved outcomes for people around the world. He has advised governments in over 60 countries on issues of public policy and delivery. He was the founder and first head of the Prime Minister's Delivery Unit under Prime Minister Tony Blair, and later served as Chief Education Advisor at Pearson, and as a partner at McKinsey, where he was head of the global education practice. Michael (Mickey) Barber, FRS (3 November 1934 – 8 May 1991) was a British chemist and mass spectrometrist, best known for his invention of fast atom bombardment ionisation. Biography On 3 November 1934, Barber was born at his family's home in Manchester at 166 Lodge Lane in Newton. His family were working-class and underprivileged. Barber was one of two boys; his brother Peter was born in 1927. His father, Joseph Barber, was a carpenter. He went to Manchester Grammar School and was then educated at the Queen's College, Oxford, obtaining his B.A. in 1958 and his B.Sc. in 1959. There he worked with Jack Linnett and they designed and built a mass spectrometer for the analysis of flames. He married Joan Gaskell in 1958, the coupled had three children. In 1961 he returned to Manchester to work at the Scientific Instruments division of Associated Electrical Industries. Michael Newton Barber (born 30 April 1947) is a mathematician, physicist and academic. He was Vice Chancellor of Flinders University in South Australia from 2008 until 2014. Career Barber studied at the University of New South Wales, where he received the University Medal in applied mathematics and graduated with first class honours. He received a PhD from Cornell University in the USA in theoretical physics in 1972. He is best known for the scaling theory of finite size effects at phase transitions, which he introduced together with Michael Fisher. Barber worked at the Australian National University and University of New South Wales as an academic in the 1970s and 1980s. in 1990, he was appointed Dean of the Faculty of Science at the ANU. Michael Dwayne “Mike” Barber (born June 4, 1953) is a former American football player; he played as a tight end. Early life and education Barber attended White Oak High School, where he played Quarterback, passing for over 4,000 yards, and graduated in 1972. He then attended Louisiana Tech where he was converted to Tight end. He was voted a 1974 Little All-American, as was Bulldog teammate and future Pro Football Hall of Fame defensive end Fred Dean. He was selected in the second round of 1976 NFL Draft by the Houston Oilers. He played for the Oilers for six years, and then finished his career playing four years for the Los Angeles Rams. Ray Barber (January 8, 1923 – June 30, 2009), born Michael Joseph Barbetta, was an American singer in the early 1950s. He recorded with Mercury Records.
