''Focus'' (styled as ''FOCUS'') is a German-language news magazine published by Hubert Burda Media. Established in 1993 as an alternative to the '' Der Spiegel'' weekly news magazine, since 2015 the editorial staff has been headquartered in Germany's capital of Berlin. Alongside Spiegel and Stern, Focus is one of the three most widely circulated German weeklies. ''Germany's Next Topmodel'' (often abbreviated as ''GNTM'') is a German reality television series, based on a concept introduced by Tyra Banks with ''America's Next Top Model''. The competition is hosted by Heidi Klum who also serves as the lead judge and executive producer of the show. The show is heavily criticized in Germany because of the treatment of its contestants. Show format Each annual search of ''Germany's Next Topmodel'' has 10 to 17 episodes and starts with 12–31 contestants. During each episode, one contestant is eliminated, though a double/triple elimination or no elimination was given by the consensus of the judging panel. Germany's Next Topmodel Cycle 1 is the first season of '' Germany's Next Topmodel'' (often abbreviated to GNTM) that aired on German television network ProSieben. The show started airing on 25 January 2006 with twelve girls in the competition. 18-year-old Lena Gercke came off as this season's winner. She became a successful model after the show and the host of Austria's Next Topmodel. IMG Models manages the winner and also managed first runner-up and second runner-up for one year. The first season copied many photo shoot ideas from '' America's Next Top Model'', especially from the first season.
