Miasma (album)
''Miasma'' is the second studio album by American death metal band The Black Dahlia Murder. Released through Metal Blade Records on July 12, 2005, ''Miasma'' is the only album to feature drummer Zach Gibson, who replaced founding member and drummer, Cory Grady, as well as being the last with bassist David Lock. Gibson also left the band the following year after the release of the album and was replaced by Shannon Lucas, formerly of All That Remains. The album's title, ''Miasma'', refers to Miasma theory. The track "Dave Goes to Hollywood" was originally entitled "Vice Campaign". Music videos were released for the tracks "Statutory Ape", "A Vulgar Picture", and "Miasma". The Black Dahlia Murder is an American melodic death metal band from Waterford, Michigan, formed in 2001. Their name is derived from the 1947 unsolved murder of Elizabeth Short, often referred to as Black Dahlia. Currently, the band consists of lead vocalist Brian Eschbach, bassist Max Lavelle, drummer Alan Cassidy, and guitarists Brandon Ellis and Ryan Knight. The Black Dahlia Murder has undergone various lineup changes, with Trevor Strnad and Eschbach remaining the only constant members, until the former's death in 2022, which then saw Eschbach take over lead vocals. Death metal is an extreme subgenre of heavy metal music. Brian Slagel (born February 14, 1961) is an American music executive. He is the founder and CEO of the independent record label Metal Blade Records. Slagel is known for having initiated the ''Metal Massacre'' series of compilation albums in 1982, the first of which included the first commercial recording by Metallica. Metal Blade has since released seminal albums by Slayer, Mercyful Fate, Cannibal Corpse, Fates Warning, Amon Amarth and The Black Dahlia Murder, among others. Miasma Theory
The miasma theory (also called the miasmatic theory) is an obsolete medical theory that held that diseases—such as cholera, chlamydia, or the Black Death—were caused by a ''miasma'' (, Ancient Greek for 'pollution'), a noxious form of "bad air", also known as night air. The theory held that epidemics were caused by miasma, emanating from rotting organic matter. Though miasma theory is typically associated with the spread of contagious diseases, some academics in the early nineteenth century suggested that the theory extended to other conditions as well, e.g. one could become obese by inhaling the odor of food. The miasma theory was advanced by Hippocrates in the fourth century B.C. and accepted from ancient times in Europe and China. All That Remains is an American heavy metal band from Springfield, Massachusetts, formed in 1998. They have released nine studio albums, a live CD and DVD, and have sold over a million records worldwide. The group currently consists of vocalist Philip Labonte, rhythm guitarist Mike Martin, former Diecast drummer Jason Costa, and lead guitarist Jason Richardson, with Labonte being the last remaining original member. In spite of this, the band's line-up had remained consistent from the release of 2008's '' Overcome'' until 2015's ''The Order of Things'', spanning four albums. Shannon Lucas
Shannon Lucas (born September 27, 1983) is an American Heavy metal music, heavy metal drummer from Staunton, Virginia. He is best known as the former drummer for death metal band The Black Dahlia Murder (band), The Black Dahlia Murder and metalcore band All That Remains (band), All That Remains. Musical career Lucas began drumming at the age of 14 while also covering Slayer songs on guitar; he later joined percussion classes in high school. At age 19, he moved to Richmond, Virginia, and joined Flattus Maximus, Cory Smoot in the GWAR side project Mensrea while playing with the deathgrind band Wartorn. While opening for GWAR with the band, Lucas met All That Remains (band), All That Remains vocalist Phil Labonte and the two remained in close contact.
