Giovanni Miani
Giovanni Miani (Rovigo 17 March 1810 – Tangasi 21 November 1872) was an Italian explorer. He is known for his explorations of the Nile, where he came close to being the first European to reach its source in Lake Victoria, and for his exploration of the region around the Uele River in what is now the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Early years (1810–1849) Giovanni Miani was born on 17 March 1810 in Rovigo, Veneto, Italy. His mother was Maddalena Miani, a servant, sister of the architect Giovanni Miani of the Venice Arsenal and aunt of Antonio Miani, commander of the first Italian conquest of Fezzan in 1913. His father is unknown. While he was a child his mother obtained service with the noble P. A. Bragadin, leaving Miani with some relatives, where he tried to learn the art of wood carving. Hieronimo Miani
Hieronimo Miani, also known as Hieronymus Miani, was an Italian history painter, who worked in Denmark as both a painter to the royal court of King Christian VI, and as a teacher. He was born in Venice, Italy, and was in the service of Karl Philip Emanuel of Pfalz in Mannheim, Germany before being called to Denmark in 1739 to work for the royal court of King Christian VI. One of the court’s biggest projects at the time was the building and decoration of Christiansborg Palace in Copenhagen 1733-1745, for which Miani painted a large plafond or ceiling decoration with religious theme. The work was entitled "''Uretfærdighedens og lasternes flugt for den retfærdige Guds åsyn''" ("The Flight of Injustice and Vices at the Sight of the Just God"), and was painted 1739-1740. Valeria Miani
Valeria Miani (1563 – 1620) was an Italian playwright noted for her works Celinda, a Tragedy, and Amorosa Speranza. Miani married Domenico Negri in 1593, with whom she had five children, Isabetta, Isabella, Lucretia, Giulio, and Anzolo. Miani is known for being the first woman to publish a tragedy prior to the 18th century. In addition, she was the third woman in Italy to write in the newly popular genre, the pastoral. Miani's works explored themes such as cross-dressing, death and punishment, female virtue, and female resilience.
