Miami State High School is a school in Miami, Queensland established as South Coast District State High School in 1963. History Originally named South Coast District State High School, Miami High was officially opened in April 1963. It soon became known as Miami High and, after a number of years, the more compact name was officially adopted. It was built to meet the needs of the rapidly expanding population on the Gold Coast. At the time, the only public high schools were Southport High School and Tweed River High School, about apart, with the site of Miami High about midway between the two on the Gold Coast Highway at the very northern end of Miami. The chosen site presented a number of construction challenges because the southern half was a swamp and the northern half was on the steep slope of Nobby's Headland, an upthrust of schist about 50 m high at its highest point. Anna Bligh
Anna Maria Bligh (born 14 July 1960) is a lobbyist and former Australian politician who served as the 37th Premier of Queensland, in office from 2007 to 2012 as leader of the Labor Party. She was the first woman to hold either position. In 2017, she was appointed CEO of the Australian Banking Association. Bligh was born in Warwick, Queensland, and studied at the University of Queensland. Before entering politics she worked for various community organisations. Bligh entered the Queensland Legislative Assembly at the 1995 state election, winning the seat of South Brisbane. She was promoted to the ministry in 1998, under Peter Beattie, and became deputy premier in 2005 and state treasurer in 2006. Lucy Single (born 28 September 2002) is an Australian rules footballer playing for Gold Coast in the AFL Women's competition (AFLW). Early life Single was born on the Gold Coast to a Korean mother and a New Zealander father. She moved with her family to New Zealand as an infant where she played a number of sports including rugby as well as competing in karate competitions. Due to a lack of opportunities in New Zealand, she relocated back to the Gold Coast at the age of 10 and enrolled at Miami State High School. Teagan Levi (born 14 August 2003) is an Australian rugby union player who has represented Australia at sevens rugby at the Commonwealth Games. She is the sister of fellow rugby sevens player Maddison Levi. Australia Women's National Rugby Sevens Team
The Australia women's national rugby sevens team, are the Australia national rugby sevens team of women. They were champions of the inaugural Women's Sevens World Cup in 2009. The team plays in the World Rugby Women's Sevens Series as one of the "core teams" on the world tour, of which they have been crowned Champions three times. The team also played in the preceding competition to the current world series, the IRB Women's Sevens Challenge Cup. In 2016, they won the inaugural gold medal at the Rio Summer Olympics. The Gold Coast Suns is a professional Australian rules football club that competes in the Australian Football League (AFL). The club is based on Queensland's Gold Coast in the suburb of Carrara. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). Maddison Levi (born 27 April 2002) is an Australian rules footballer and rugby sevens player currently playing for Gold Coast in the AFL Women's competition (AFLW) and Australia women's sevens team. Early life Levi grew up on the Gold Coast and attended Miami State High School throughout her upbringing where she was a member of their Rugby Sevens Excellence Program. An accomplished junior rugby player, she represented Queensland as well as Australia in junior competitions and was named player of the tournament in the under-17 Youth Rugby Sevens National Championships. In 2018 Levi was asked to play Australian rules football for the first time with Miami High's AFLQ Schools Cup team and went on to play a pivotal role in the school's state championship win that year.
