Miami-Dade Aviation Department
The Miami-Dade Aviation Department (MDAD) is an agency of the Miami-Dade County government that manages airports. As of 2021 Ralph Cutié is the interim director of the agency. The Arts and Cultural Affairs division was created, and is managed by, Yolanda Sanchez. MDAD operates Miami International Airport, a passenger airport, and four general aviation airports. Yolanda Sanchez
Yolanda Sanchez (born 1953) is a Cuban-American artist, professor, and fine arts director for the art program at Miami International Airport . She is known for non-figurative, abstract, expressionistic painting. Sanchez currently lives in Miami, Florida where she paints and works for the Miami international airport. Early life and education Yolanda Sanchez was born in Havana, Cuba to a concert pianist mother. She emigrated with her mother at seven years old to Miami, where she was raised . Sanchez initially received her PhD in clinical psychology from Florida State University in 1979 and then proceeded to be involved in 24 years of practicing and teaching psychology. Miami-Opa Locka Executive Airport (formerly Opa-locka Airport and Opa-locka Executive Airport until 2014) is a joint civil-military airport located in Miami-Dade County, Florida north of downtown Miami. Part of the airport is in the city limits of Opa-locka. The National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems for 2011–2015 called it a general aviation ''reliever airport''. Miami Executive Airport, formerly known until 2014 as Kendall-Tamiami Executive Airport, is a public airport in unincorporated Miami-Dade County, Florida, southwest of Downtown Miami. It is operated by the Miami-Dade Aviation Department. The airport opened on November 18, 1967, replacing Tamiami Airport, next to the Tamiami Trail. Growth of the surrounding area and the nearby flight path to Miami International Airport had forced the move to the southwest, near the community of Kendall. Florida International University is now on the site of the old Tamiami Airport. Miami Homestead General Aviation Airport is a county-owned public-use airport in unincorporated Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States, located northwest of the central business district of Homestead.
