"Mi Rowsu" is a song written and performed by Surinamese singer Damaru. The song became a great success in Suriname. Another version of the song, which features Jan Smit, became a huge hit in the Netherlands. Damaru version "Mi Rowsu" (English: ''My Rose'') is a single by Surinamese singer Damaru from his album ''Mi Rowsu''. He wrote the song for his daughter Dinoura. The song was released in Suriname in 2007. It reached the peak position of the Surinam charts and stayed there for nine weeks. Two years later, the song was released in the Netherlands. Dino Orpheo Canterburg (born 2 July 1986, in Paramaribo), better known by his stage name Damaru, is a Surinamese singer and rapper. He is best known for his song " Mi Rowsu (Tuintje In Mijn Hart)" with Dutch singer Jan Smit. Life and career Early life and career beginnings Damaru grew up in Paramaribo, the capital of Suriname, in a family with six children. When he was thirteen years old, he started rapping and singing. His singing talents were a great success. Before he started his solo career, he was member of the bands "Lava Boys" and "New Jack Boys". Damaru derived his stage name from his idol Tupac Shakur: the second name of this American rapper was "Amaru". Damaru added the letter D, from his name Dino, and his stage name was born. Jan Smit (born 31 December 1985) is a Dutch singer, television host, and actor. Smit mostly sings songs in the Dutch language, in a genre known as ''Volendam music''. In addition to his solo career, in 2015 Smit joined the schlager trio KLUBBB3, and in 2017 The Toppers. As a TV presenter, he has worked on programs like the ''Beste Zangers'' (Best Singers in the Netherlands) and ''Sterren Muziekfeest op het Plein'' (Music Festival on the square.) The Dutch Top 40 ( nl, Nederlandse Top 40) is a weekly music chart compiled by ''Stichting Nederlandse Top 40''. It started as a radio program titled "Veronica Top 40", on the offshore station Radio Veronica in 1965. It remained "The Veronica Top 40" until 1974, when the station was forced to stop broadcasting. The Dutch Single Top 100 or Single Top 100 is a Dutch chart, based on official physical single sales, legal downloads and since July 2013 streaming and composed by Dutch Charts. It is one of the three official charts, the other two being the Dutch Top 40 and the Mega Top 30. The difference is that these charts also include airplay data.
