Meyer Rosenbaum (I)
Grand Rebbe Meyer Rosenbaum (1852–1908), Kretchnifer Rebbe, was the son of Rabbi Mordechai of Nadvorna (1824–1894). His scholarly work is called "Razah DeUvdah." He was the only person whom his father authorized to issue ''kameyos'' (written amulets) to chassidim. Rosenbaum was also the father of Grand Rabbi Eliezer Zev Rosenbaum (who perished in 1944 in the Holocaust), Kretchnifer Rebbe, and Rabbi Issamar of Nadvorna. Mordechai Of Nadvorna
Mordechai Leifer (or Läufer) (1824–1894) was a rabbi in Nadvirna, Ukraine. Biography Leifer was the son of Rabbi Yesochor Bertche Leifer (d. 1848), author of ''Sisrei Torah'', and a great-great-grandson of Rabbi Meir "The Great" of Premishlan. He served as a Hasidic Rebbe of Nadvirna (Nadwórna). He was raised by his great uncle, the famous Rebbe Meir'l of Premishlan. Hasidim from all over Hungary and Romania would come to receive his blessings. An extraordinarily large number of his descendants became Hasidic rebbes, including many around the world today. His teachings are collected in ''Gedulas Mordechai'', ''Tiferes Mordechai'', ''Aspaklarya Hameira'', ''Maamar Mordechai'' and ''Oros Mordechai''. Leifer is buried in Bushtyno, Ukraine. Amulets
An amulet, also known as a good luck charm or phylactery, is an object believed to confer protection upon its possessor. The word "amulet" comes from the Latin word amuletum, which Pliny's ''Natural History'' describes as "an object that protects a person from trouble". Anything can function as an amulet; items commonly so used include statues, coins, drawings, plant parts, animal parts, and written words. Amulets which are said to derive their extraordinary properties and powers from magic or those which impart luck are typically part of folk religion or paganism, whereas amulets or sacred objects of formalised mainstream religion as in Christianity are believed to have no power of their own without faith in Jesus and being blessed by a clergyman, and they supposedly will also not provide any preternatural benefit to the bearer who does not have an appropriate disposition. Chassidim
Ḥasīd ( he, חסיד, "pious", "saintly", "godly man"; plural "Hasidim") is a Jewish honorific, frequently used as a term of exceptional respect in the Talmudic and early medieval periods. It denotes a person who is scrupulous in his observance of Jewish law, and often one who goes beyond the legal requirements of ritual and ethical Jewish observance in daily life. In the Mishnah, the term is used thirteen times, the majority of which being in the Tractate '' Pirkei Avot''. Hebrew etymology The Hebrew word ''Ḥasīd'' appears for the first time in the Torah (Deuteronomy 33:8) with respect to the tribe of Levi, and all throughout the Hebrew Book of Psalms, with its various declensions. In classic rabbinic literature it differs from " Tzadik" ("righteous") by instead denoting one who goes beyond his ordinary duty. Issamar Of Nadvorna
Isamar Rosenbaum (1886–1973) was a Hasidic rebbe of the Hasidic dynasties of Nadvorna and Kretshnif. He was the son of Rabbi Meyer Rosenbaum (1852 - June 29 1908) of Kretshniff, who in turn was a son of Rabbi Mordechai of Nadvorna (1824–1894). Rosenbaum became a rebbe at the age of fifteen and, at his father's behest, moved to Czernowitz where he served as a chasidic rebbe. In the Nadvorna dynasty, all children of the rebbes open their own chasidic courts, even during their fathers' lifetime. His wife, Malka, was the daughter of Rebbe Usher Yeshaya Rubin of Kolbuszowa, Galicia. His family was the only chasidic family of grand rabbis known to have all survived the Nazi camps with the whole family intact. His wife died in 1969 and was buried in Tveria. Kretshnif (also written as ''Kretchinev'', ''Kretchniv'', ''Kretshniff'') is a Hasidic Jewish dynasty that comes from the Nadvorna dynasty. Kretshnif is located in present day Romania, near Târgu Mureș. The town name in Romanian is Crăciunești. The first rebbe of Kretshnif was Grand Rabbi Meir Rosenbaum, a son of Grand Rabbi Mordechai of Nadvorna.
