Mexopolis (also known as Mexopolis Animation Studio) is an American-Mexican production company founded in 1994 by Jorge R. Gutierrez and Sandra Equihua. Jorge Gutierrez (animator)
Jorge R. Gutierrez (born January 25, 1975) is a Mexican animator, writer, producer, director, and voice actor. He co-created with Sandra Equihua the Nickelodeon animated series '' El Tigre: The Adventures of Manny Rivera'', co-wrote and directed '' The Book of Life'', ''Son of Jaguar'' for Google, and ''Maya and the Three'' for Netflix Animation. Biography Born in 1975 in Mexico City and raised in Tijuana, Gutierrez has completed various films, cartoons, illustrations and paintings exploring his love of Mexican pop and folk culture. Gutierrez attended the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts), where he received his BFA (1997) & MFA (2000) in Experimental Animation under Jules Engel, and was mentored by Maureen Selwood. Sandra Equihua
Sandra Equihua is a Mexican animator, painter, sculptor, character designer, voice actress, and illustrator. Biography Born and raised in Tijuana, Mexico, Sandra attended the Universidad Iberoamericana (IBERO) and received her BFA in Graphic Design in Tijuana, Mexico. While studying under illustrator Rafael Lopez at Art Center at Night in San Diego, she learned to conceptualize, experiment with technique, color and ideas, discovering her real passion was illustration. This expanded her artistic range and she moved to Los Angeles. She also studied under the Clayton Brothers at Art Center at Night in Pasadena. Her original paintings have been shown in galleries both in Mexico and the United States. She designed characters for ''El Macho'' (Sony), ''¡Mucha Lucha!''
