Mexico In The OTI Festival
Mexico and its member station Televisa, participated in the OTI festival 26 times making its debut in 1973, one year after the start of the contest. During the contest’s run, Mexico was one of the most successful nations with a record six wins, including a back-to-back victory in 1989 and 1990, and 14 top 3 finishes. History Mexico was along with Spain the most successful country of the history of the festival with six victories. Apart from the victories, the country ended in the top 10 on 19 occasions. The first Mexican victory came in 1973 in Belo Horizonte with Imelda Miller who sung the song "¡Que alegre va María!" (How happy goes Mary!!). Two year later, the country won again the contest in San Juan with the song "La felicidad" (The happiness) sung by Gualberto Castro. Televisa
Grupo Televisa is a Mexican multimedia mass media company. A major Latin American mass media corporation, it often presents itself as the largest producer of Spanish-language content. In April 2021, Televisa and Univision Communications announced that they had proposed a merger between Televisa's media and entertainment assets with Univision, which would form a new company to be known as TelevisaUnivision. Ay Amor (Ana Gabriel Song)
"¡Ay, Amor!" (English: ''Oh Love'') is a ballad written and performed by Mexican singer-songwriter Ana Gabriel and produced by Mariano Pérez Bautista. It was released as the first single from her third studio album, '' Pecado Original'' (1987). This song became the second to spend 14 consecutive weeks at number one in the ''Billboard'' Hot Latin Tracks chart, after fellow Mexican singer Daniela Romo with " De Mí Enamórate", being surpassed in the same year by Yuri when her single "Qué Te Pasa" achieved sixteen weeks at the top of the chart. "¡Ay, Amor!" is also recognized as one of Gabriel's signature songs and has been performed by several singers, including Tino y su Banda Joven, Jannette Chao, Keyla Caballero, Myriam and Yuri. María Del Sol
María del Sol (; born Marisol de las Mercedes Echánove Rojas October 24, 1961 in Guanajuato, Guanajuato) is a Mexican singer. She is the daughter of lawyer Alonso Echánove and the actress/journalist Josefina Echánove and the younger sister of Peggy Echánove and actor Alonso Echánove. In the 1970s, she auditioned with music producer Luis de Llano and got married at the age of 16 to Miguel Magaña, who was 14 years her senior. They divorced a year later. In 1979, she was named The Voice of Heraldo, starred in the musical ''La Pandilla'' and was named Best New Artist at the OTI Festival. In 1980, she recorded her first album and in 1981, she won the Best Singer Prize at the Yamaha Festival in Japan. That same year, she married Raúl Canessa, the brother of Uruguayan football player, Julio Canessa.
