''Mexicanisimo'' is the thirteenth studio album by keyboardist Yanni, released on Venemusic label in 2010. The album peaked at #15 on Billboard's "Regional Mexican Albums" chart, at #2 on Billboard's "Top New Age Albums" chart and at #31 on "Billboard's "Top Latin Albums" chart in the same year. Background The album is a musical tribute to Mexico during its period of bicentennial celebrations. Yanni has collaborated with Mexican producer Manuel Cázares to interpret many Mexican songs that embrace the country's heritage. Yanni
Yiannis Chryssomallis ( el, Γιάννης Χρυσομάλλης; born November 14, 1954), known professionally as Yanni ( ), is a Greek-American composer, keyboardist, pianist, and music producer. Yanni continues to use the musical shorthand that he developed as a child, blending jazz, classical, soft rock, and world music to create predominantly instrumental works. Although this genre of music was not well suited for commercial pop radio and music television, Yanni received international recognition by producing concerts at historic monuments and by producing videos that were broadcast on public television. Cielito Lindo
"Cielito Lindo" is a popular Mexican song '' copla'', popularized in 1882 by Mexican author Quirino Mendoza y Cortés (c. 1862–1957). It is roughly translated as "Lovely Sweet One". Although the word ''cielo'' means "sky" or "heaven", it is also a term of endearment comparable to "sweetheart" or "honey." ''Cielito'', the diminutive, can be translated as "sweetie"; ''lindo'' means "cute", "lovely" or "pretty". Sometimes the song is known by words from the refrain, "Canta y no llores" or simply the "Ay, Ay, Ay, Ay song". Commonly played by mariachi bands, it has been recorded by many artists in the original Spanish as well as in English and other languages. Jesús Monge Ramírez (November 9, 1910 – August 9, 1964), better known as Chucho Monge, was a Mexican composer best known for writing traditional songs. Born in Morelia, Michoacán, he is the writer of several well-known songs, including "México Lindo y Querido", "La Feria de las Flores", "Pobre Corazón", and "Cartas Marcadas", among others. Monge started his musical career competing against other composers like Agustín Lara and Alfonso Esparza Oteo in waltz composition contests. Later on, he became a radio artist in XEQ, XEW and XEB stations. He developed a partnership with Lucha Reyes, who helped popularize his song “La Feria de las Flores”. Ernesto Lecuona
Ernesto Lecuona y Casado (; August 7, 1896 – November 29, 1963) was a Cuban composer and pianist, many of whose works have become standards of the Latin, jazz and classical repertoires. His over 600 compositions include songs and zarzuelas as well as pieces for piano and symphonic orchestra. In the 1930s, he helped establish a popular band, the Lecuona Cuban Boys, which showcased some of his most successful pieces and was later taken over by Armando Oréfiche. In the 1950s, Lecuona recorded several LPs, including solo piano albums for RCA Victor. He moved to the United States after the Cuban Revolution and died in Spain in 1963. Malagueña (song)
"Malagueña" (, from Málaga) is a song by Cuban composer Ernesto Lecuona. It was originally the sixth movement of Lecuona's ''Suite Andalucía'' (1933), to which he added lyrics in Spanish. The song has since become a popular, jazz, marching band, and drum and bugle corps standard and has been provided with lyrics in several languages. In general terms Malagueñas are flamenco dance styles from Málaga in the southeast of Spain (see Malagueñas (flamenco style)). Origins The melody that forms the basis of "Malagueña" was not of Lecuona's invention. It can be heard in 19th century American composer Louis Moreau Gottschalk's solo piano composition "Souvenirs d'Andalousie."
