Mexican Southeast League
The Mexican Southeast League was a short-season Class-A circuit in Minor league baseball which operated from 1964 through 1970. Throughout its existence, the MSL served as a farm system for the Class Triple-A Mexican League. Orizaba, Veracruz
Orizaba () is a city and municipality in the Mexican state of Veracruz. It is located 20 km west of its sister city Córdoba, and is adjacent to Río Blanco and Ixtaczoquitlán, on Federal Highways 180 and 190. The city had a 2005 census population of 117,273 and is almost coextensive with its small municipality, with only a few small areas outside the city. The municipality's population was 117,289 and it has an area of 27.97 km2 (10.799 sq mi). René Valdés
René Valdés (born René Gutiérrez Valdés, June 2, 1929 – March 15, 2008) was a Cuban-born professional baseball player. Early life and career The right-handed pitcher, born in Guanabacoa near Havana on June 2, appeared in five games in Major League Baseball for the Brooklyn Dodgers in during his 13-year pro career. He stood tall and weighed . Valdés was acquired by Brooklyn in 1954 after spending his first two seasons in the minor leagues with the unaffiliated Indios de Ciudad Juárez of the Class C Arizona–Texas League, winning 19 games during each year. Angel Scull
Angel Scull Saez (October 2, 1928 – February 14, 2005) was a Cuban professional baseball outfielder. Listed at 5' 8", 165 lb., he batted and threw right handed. Born in Matanzas, Scull was known as a line-drive hitter and speedy base runner. In addition, he was a fine defensive player at all three outfield positions, playing mainly as a center fielder for the Alacranes de Almendares during his ten seasons in the Cuban League from 1951–1952 through 1960–1961. Scull was also a member of the Cuban baseball team which won the gold medal in the 1951 Pan American Games held in Buenos Aires, Argentina. During the tournament, he led all players in runs batted in (14) and stolen bases (4) while tying for the most home runs (3). Celerino Sánchez
Celerino Sánchez Pérez (3 February 1944 – 1 May 1992) was a Mexican Major League baseball third baseman. Career Sánchez starred as a baseball player in the Mexican League from 1964 to 1971, primarily with the Tigres del México, before joining the New York Yankees organization in 1972. After spending a few months with the Yankees' minor league affiliate, the Syracuse Chiefs, Sánchez joined the Yankees on June, 1972, and was the Yankees regular third baseman for the rest of the year. In 1973, the Yankees' acquisition of star third baseman Graig Nettles relegated him to a backup role. 1973 was Sánchez' final year in the Major Leagues. Sanchez hit his only career home run at Yankee Stadium on May 12, 1973 against Mickey Scott of the Baltimore Orioles. Héctor Rodríguez (baseball)
Héctor Antonio Rodríguez Ordeñana (June 13, 1920 – September 1, 2003) was a Major League Baseball third baseman for one season () with the Chicago White Sox. His natural position was shortstop, but he had the misfortune to be with the White Sox while Chico Carrasquel played the position, followed by all-time great Luis Aparicio. A native of Alquízar, Cuba, Rodríguez played in the Negro leagues with the New York Cubans, 1939 and 1944, and in the Mexican League, 1945–46 (Riley, 676) prior to the integration of organized baseball, Before the 1951 season, Rodríguez was acquired by the Brooklyn Dodgers from the Tuneros de San Luis Potosí of the Mexican League. Minnie Miñoso
Orestes "Minnie" Miñoso (, ; born Saturnino Orestes Armas Miñoso Arrieta; November 29, 1923 – March 1, 2015), nicknamed "The Cuban Comet" and "Mr. White Sox", was a Cuban professional baseball player. He began his baseball career in the Negro leagues in 1946 and became an All-Star third baseman with the New York Cubans. He was signed by the Cleveland Indians of Major League Baseball (MLB) after the 1948 season as baseball's color line fell. Miñoso went on to become an All-Star left fielder with the Indians and Chicago White Sox. Juan Francisco Herrera Villavicencio (June 16, 1934 – April 28, 2005), nicknamed "Pancho" and "Frank", was a Cuban-born professional baseball player. He appeared in an even 300 games over all or part of three seasons in Major League Baseball for the Philadelphia Phillies between and , primarily as a first baseman. Pompeyo Davalillo
Pompeyo Antonio Davalillo Romero a-va-LEE-yo(June 30, 1928 – February 28, 2013) was a Venezuelan professional baseball player and minor league manager. He played in Major League Baseball as a shortstop for the Washington Senators. Nicknamed "Yo-Yo" by his teammates, he was listed at 5' 3", 140 lb. Davalillo batted and threw right-handed. Career Davalillo was drafted by the New York Yankees in 1953 and later transferred to the Washington Senators. At the age of 25, he made his major league debut with the Senators on August 1, 1953, becoming only the fourth Venezuelan to play in Major League Baseball after Alex Carrasquel (1939), Chucho Ramos (1944) and Chico Carrasquel (1950). The Mexican League (, ) is a professional baseball league based in Mexico and the oldest running professional league in the country. The league has 18 teams organized in two divisions, North and South. Teams play 114 games each season.
