Mexican Cycling Federation
The Mexican Cycling Federation (in Spanish language, Spanish: ''Federación Mexicana de Ciclismo'', FMC) is the national sport governing body, governing body of bicycle racing, cycle racing in Mexico. It covers the disciplines of road racing, track cycling, cyclo-cross, BMX, mountain biking and cycle speedway. It is a Member of the Union Cycliste Internationale, UCI, Confederacion Panamericana de CiclismoConfederación Deportiva Mexicana(CODEME) and The Mexican Olympic Committee () (COM). In 2021, the UCI suspended the FMC for infringements regarding governance and electoral processes. This suspension was confirmed at the 2022 UCI Congress. Track Cycling
Track cycling is a bicycle racing sport usually held on specially built banked tracks or velodromes using purpose-designed track bicycles. History Track cycling has been around since at least 1870. When track cycling was in its infancy, it was held on velodromes similar to the ones used today. These velodromes consisted of two straights and slightly banked turns, though they varied more in length and material than the modern 250m track. One appeal of indoor track racing was that spectators could be easily controlled, and hence an entrance fee could be charged, making track racing a lucrative sport. Early track races attracted crowds of up to 2,000 people. Indoor tracks also enabled year-round cycling for the first time. Vuelta Ciclista Mexico Telmex was an annual road cycling race in Mexico that took place over the course of eight days, involving eight stages. The Mexico national tour had a rich history dating back to the 1940s, and the latest incarnation was revived in late 2008 and early 2009 as the condensed evolution of the Vueltas de las Americas, a 21-day stage race, defunct from 2003. This national tour was ranked 2.2, according to UCI race classifications, and was a part of the UCI America Tour#Events 2, UCI America Tour. The Mexican Olympic Committee () (COM) is the organization that represents Mexico, Mexican athletes in the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the Pan American Games and the Central American and Caribbean Games. Cycle speedway is a form of bicycle racing on short oval dirt tracks, usually outdoors, occasionally indoors, typically 70–90 metres long. Like motorcycle speedway, riders use machines without brakes or multiple gears but, unlike motor speedway, the object is not to slide bikes round the turns. Origins The origins of cycle speedway are obscure. It existed by the 1920s but appears to have taken off in the wreckage of post-war cities in Britain. With tracks cleared through the rubble, on bikes not otherwise roadworthy, and under the influence of motorcycle speedway, cycle speedway grew haphazardly as a way for young people to enjoy themselves in cities. Mountain biking is a sport of riding bicycles off-road, often over rough terrain, usually using specially designed mountain bikes.
