	Meurig Ap Tewdrig Meurig ap Tewdrig (Latin: ''Mauricius''; English: ''Maurice'') was the son of Tewdrig (St. Tewdric), and a King of the early Welsh Kingdoms of Gwent and Glywysing. He is thought to have lived between 400AD and 600AD, but some sources give more specific dates of c.596 - c.665. Meurig took over the Gwent throne upon his father's abdication in the early 7th century. According to tradition, Tewdric became a hermit at Tintern, but later came to the assistance of Meurig, and they repelled the invading Saxons in a battle at Pont y Saeson (Bridge of the Saxons). Meurig reunited his kingdom with Ergyng (Archenfield) by marrying Onbrawst, the daughter of King Gwrgan Fawr (the Great) of that kingdom. He is said to have been a great patron of Llandaff Cathedral where he was eventually buried. 	Meurig Dafydd Meurig Dafydd (–95) was a Welsh bard, genealogist and historian, at one time one of the leading literary figures in Glamorgan. However, his poetry was formal and uninspired. Life Meurig Dafydd was born at Llanishen near Cardiff around 1510. He studied under Lewys Morgannwg, a much livelier poet, and became a professional bard. He was a convinced Roman Catholic. He married Joan Mathau, granddaughter of Sir Christopher Mathew of Llandaff. For forty years he was the family bard of the Lewis family of Van, Caerphilly. He was also a genealogist and historian and acted as a "herehaut" to the Ludlow court. Meurig Dafydd periodically left the Lewis's to tour the houses of the gentlefolk of Glamorgan, Gwent and south Brecknock. He died in 1595. He is the Chief Executive and Artistic Director of the Britten Sinfonia and a Trustee of Polyphony (choir).
