Metropole Orkest
The Metropole Orkest (Metropole Orchestra) is a jazz and pop orchestra based in the Netherlands, and is the largest full-time ensemble of its kind in the world. A hybrid orchestra, it is a combination of jazz, big band and symphony orchestra. Comprising 52–97 musicians, it is versatile across many musical forms, and is equipped with a "double rhythm section" – one for pop and rock, and one for jazz based music. History The Metropole Orkest was founded in 1945 by Dolf van der Linden at the urging of officials from Netherlands Public Broadcasting, which manages and subsidizes the orchestra. The name of the group was suggested by one of the musicians. Dolf van der Linden led the ensemble for 35 years until he stepped down in 1980. He was replaced by Rogier van Otterloo, who led the group until his sudden death in 1988. Dick Bakker held the baton until 2005 when Vince Mendoza took over. The Metropolitan University College ( da, Professionshøjskolen Metropol), also referred to as Metropolitan UC or MUC, is a university college offering a range of bachelor's degree and academy profession degree programmes in Copenhagen, Denmark. Esporte Clube Metropol, commonly known as Metropol, were a Brazilian football team from Criciúma, Santa Catarina state. They won the Campeonato Catarinense, the main competition of association football for the state of Santa Catarina, five times. History Esporte Clube Metropol were founded on January 20, 1960. Minto Metropole
The Minto Metropole is a 32-story residential building in the Westboro neighbourhood of Ottawa, Ontario. At , it is the third-tallest building in Ottawa, after Claridge Icon and Place de Ville Tower C. It is the second-tallest residential building in the National Capital Region. The Minto Metropole is located on the near western side of the city on Island Park Drive, overlooking the Ottawa River, and within walking distance of Westboro Station. Opened in 2004, the postmodern tower is home to 153 condominiums. Originally, Minto planned to build a series of shorter towers along the waterfront, but residents complained that such a project would completely obscure their view of the river. As a result, Minto proposed building a single tall but slim tower, and city council approved the necessary rezoning. The Metropol, formerly Neues Schauspielhaus ( en, New Theatre), at 5 Nollendorfplatz in the Schöneberg district of Berlin was built in 1905 as a theatre, with a separate concert hall (the Mozartsaal) above, in the then-fashionable Art Nouveau style. In 1911 the Mozartsaal was converted into a cinema with 925 seats.
