Metro Express (Mauritius)
The Metro Express is a light rail public transport system in Mauritius. The route, when completed, will run between the Port Louis District and Plaines Wilhems District. A branch, running between Rose Hill and Réduit, will be built as well. History Mauritius had been without a railway system following the closure of Mauritius Government Railways in the 1950s. The last passenger train ran on 31 March 1956 between Port Louis and Curepipe. Due to increased car usage and chronic road congestion, plans for a light railway system have been proposed for many years. The idea of introducing Light Rail Transit was first floated in the 1970s and started being developed in the 1980s as a way to solve increasing road congestion. CAF Urbos
The CAF Urbos is a family of trams, streetcars, and light rail vehicles built by CAF. The Basque manufacturer CAF previously manufactured locomotives, passenger cars, regional, and underground trains. In 1993, CAF started building trams for Metrovalencia, with the delivery of 16 trams until 1999. This was a variant of a Siemens design and some components were delivered by Siemens, including bogies and traction motors. This design was also sold to Lisbon Trams in 1995; CAF then decided to design and build the Urbos in-house. There are three generations of the CAF Urbos, namely the Urbos 1, Urbos 2, and Urbos 3. The first generation was ordered by the Bilbao tram operator, who received eight trams between 2002 and 2004. Ebene () is a suburb of Quatre Bornes, Mauritius, south of the capital, Port Louis. Construction began in November 2001, with the suburb being promoted as a new information technology hub for Mauritius and as a link between African and Asian markets. The aim being to create a hi-tech office area in order to dynamise the country. As a result, it is also referred to as Ebene Cybercity or Cyber City. Ebene Cyber City Mauritius Research and Innovation Council has a centre at Ebene where it has a ground station for its satellite MIR-SAT1. Mauritius Metro is being expanded to Ebene. Atal Bihari Vajpayee Tower The Atal Bihari Vajpayee Tower (formerly Cyber Tower One) is a 12-storey, 72-metre-tall commercial building located in Ebene Cybercity. Open University Of Mauritius
The Open University of Mauritius (OU) is a public university in Mauritius. It offer programmes leading to undergraduate, and postgraduate degrees through open distance learning. OU's headquarters are located in Réduit, Moka. The OU was established under the Open University of Mauritius Act No. 2 of 2010, proclaimed in July 2012. Its first founder Director-General is Dr Kaviraj Sharma Sukon. The first graduation ceremony was held on 8 July 2015. The guest was the French-Mauritian Nobel Prize in Literature laureate Dr Jean-Marie Gustave Le Clézio. It was the first public university in Mauritius to be ISO-certified as from 7 July 2015. The University of Mauritius (UoM) (french: Université de Maurice) is the national university of Mauritius. It is the oldest and largest university in the country in terms of student enrollment and curriculum offered. The public university's main campus is located at Réduit, Moka. Le Caudan Waterfront is a commercial development in Port Louis, the capital city of Mauritius. It includes shops, banking facilities, casinos, cinemas, restaurants, a marina and a five star hotel (Le Labourdonnais). History The name of Le Caudan Waterfront comes from a famous figure of the past, Jean Dominique Michel de Caudan, who came to former Isle de France from Languedoc (a historical province in the South of France). He started a saltpan in 1726, close to a small bay in the southwest of Port-Louis. This area, now known as the Robert Edward Hart Garden, is situated on the entrance road to Le Caudan Waterfront.
