Metelen
Metelen is a municipality in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is located on the river Vechte in the district of Steinfurt. Metelen Land station is located on the Münster–Enschede railway and has an hourly train service to Münster in one direction and to Enschede in the other direction. History The town history dates back to 889 AD, when it was first mentioned in an official document. It is most well known for being the former hometown of Canada's famous Moddemann family. Münster–Enschede Railway
The Münster–Enschede railway is a 64 km long, continuous single-track and non-electrified branch line from Münster Hauptbahnhof, Münster via Gronau (Westf) railway station, Gronau in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia to Enschede railway station, Enschede in the Netherlands. Regionalbahn service RB 64 (''Euregio-Bahn'') runs over it. The Münster-Enschede Railway Company (''Münster-Enscheder Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft'', MEE) planned the line and started its construction, but its completion was carried out by the Royal Westphalian Railway Company (''Königlich-Westfälische Eisenbahn'', KWE), which was funded by the Prussian government. Hans Tietmeyer
Hans Tietmeyer (18 August 1931 – 27 December 2016) was a German economist and regarded as one of the foremost experts on international financial matters. He was president of Deutsche Bundesbank from 1993 until 1999 and remained afterwards one of the most important figures in finance of the European Union. Early life Hans Tietmeyer was born on 18 August 1931 as the second of 11 children of a Roman Catholic family in Metelen (Westphalia). He graduated from Gymnasium Paulinum and initially studied Roman Catholic theology before switching to economics at the University of Münster, University of Bonn and University of Cologne. Following an academic background of Alfred Müller-Armack and Ludwig Erhard he moved into international banking and economics. Anne Daubenspeck-Focke
Anne Daubenspeck-Focke ( Focke, 18 April 1922 – 27 January 2021) was a German sculptor and painter. Biography Anne Focke was born in Metelen in April 1922 as the daughter of Andreas Focke and Elisabeth Wensing, but grew up in Emsdetten. Already in her youth Focke was active as a sculptor. In 1942 she took evening classes at the art school in Münster and between 1943 and 1944 she studied Christian art in Heek-Nienborg with Wilhelm Felix Schlüter. From 1948 Focke worked and learned in the workshop of Heinrich Lückenkötter in Oelde. Finally she studied with Kurt Schwippert at the Werkkunstschule Münster from 1949 to 1954. In 1954 Focke married the sculptor Herbert Daubenspeck from Emsdetten. The couple had a son and two daughters. Due to family reasons she was not able to do much artistic work in the following years. Steinfurt (district)
Steinfurt () is a ''Kreis'' (district) in the northern part of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Neighboring districts are Bentheim, Emsland, district-free Osnabrück and the Osnabrück district, Warendorf, district-free Münster, Coesfeld, Borken.
