Metal Church
Metal Church is an American heavy metal band. They originally formed in San Francisco, California in 1980 and then relocated to Aberdeen, Washington the following year and briefly using the name Shrapnel. Led by guitarist and songwriter Kurdt Vanderhoof, the band has released twelve studio albums, and is often credited as a formative influence on the thrash metal subgenre, melding the aesthetics of the new wave of British heavy metal and American hard rock with "incredibly tight musicianship" and "piercingly screeched" vocals. They are also considered to be an integral part of the Seattle heavy metal music scene of the 1980s, and achieved considerable popularity that decade, with two of their first three albums entering the Top 100 on the ''Billboard'' 200 chart. Wacken Open Air
Wacken Open Air (, abbreviated as W:O:A) is a rock music, rock music festival, held annually since 1990 on the first weekend of August in the village of Wacken, Schleswig-Holstein, Wacken in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. Almost all styles and subgenres of hard rock and heavy metal music, metal are represented and hosted. It is now one of the largest heavy metal festivals in the world and one of the largest open-air festivals in Germany. Generation Nothing
''Generation Nothing'' is the tenth studio album by American heavy metal band Metal Church. It is their first after their late 2012 reunion, and their fourth and last to feature vocalist Ronny Munroe. Background In 2009, Vanderhoof disbanded the band following the release of '' This Present Wasteland'' and their final performance at Rocklahoma that year. In 2012, it was announced that the band was reuniting for two shows on the 70000 Tons of Metal cruise. Ultimately, the band decided to stay together. On July 12, 2013 the album title was revealed. Composition and recording The band entered Kurdt Vanderhoof's English Channel studio in March 2013 to start work on the album. Vanderhoof started mixing the album in mid June 2013. Ronny Munroe
Ronny Munroe (born November 22, 1965) is an American singer, most noted as the lead vocalist of the heavy metal band Metal Church from 2003 until the band broke up in 2009. His second tenure with the band lasted from 2012 when the group reunited until 2014, where he left to "pursue other interests". He also had a brief stint as the vocalist for Lillian Axe. He was also the lead singer of progressive rock band Presto Ballet. In October 2011 Munroe joined the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, as a vocalist. ''Masterpeace'' is the sixth studio album by American heavy metal band Metal Church released on July 22, 1999 via Nuclear Blast. It features the return of vocalist David Wayne, absent since '' The Dark'' (1986), being the band's final studio album to feature him before his death in May 2005. All original members recorded on ''Masterpeace'' except guitarist Craig Wells and drummer Kirk Arrington. Jeff Wade (the "friendly ghost") filled in for Arrington on the album and on tour. This was the second Metal Church album to feature the cruciform Gibson Explorer on a cover, the first being the band's 1984 debut. ''Blessing in Disguise'' is the third studio album by American heavy metal band Metal Church, released on February 7, 1989. Overview ''Blessing in Disguise'' was Metal Church's final release on Elektra Records, and the first album not to feature the vocals of David Wayne, due to his departure to form the band Reverend. This album marked the band's debut with vocalist Mike Howe (formerly of Heretic) and guitarist John Marshall, replacing Wayne and Kurdt Vanderhoof respectively. Vanderhoof had produced Heretic's final album ''Breaking Point'' previously. It seems that this is how Howe came to the attention of Metal Church. Wayne's new project was made up of the remaining members of Heretic. John Marshall (guitarist)
John Marshall (born January 4, 1962) is an American musician, best known as a former guitarist for the heavy metal band Metal Church (1986–1996, 1998–2001). He was the guitar tech for Metallica's lead guitarist Kirk Hammett. Marshall also became the fill-in rhythm guitarist for Metallica's James Hetfield on two occasions when Hetfield was injured. First in 1986 (while still performing his duties as guitar tech) while Hetfield's wrist was broken, and again in 1992 when Hetfield was recovering from burn injuries. Marshall joined the band onstage for a performance of "Sad but True" during Metallica's four-day 30th anniversary concert in December 2011 at the Fillmore in San Francisco. He also briefly played in progressive thrash metal band Blind Illusion (which also featured Les Claypool and Larry LaLonde of Primus). Marshall stands 6' 7" (200 cm). Mike Howe
Mike Howe (August 21, 1965 – July 26, 2021) was an American heavy metal singer who performed with Metal Church, Heretic, and Snair. Career Howe began his career as the singer for a Detroit band called Hellion (later renamed Snair after moving to Los Angeles) before joining the band Heretic, who were formed in 1986. Heretic released its sole full-length album, ''Breaking Point'' in 1988 before Howe departed to join Metal Church and Heretic disbanded. From 1988 until 1996 Howe sang in Metal Church, replacing David Wayne. After Howe joined Metal Church the subject matter deepened. The band's lyrics tackled political and social issues of the day with the releases of '' Blessing in Disguise'' and '' The Human Factor''. ''The Dark'' is the second full-length album released by American heavy metal band Metal Church, released on October 6, 1986. This was the last album featuring the group's "classic" lineup of David Wayne, Kurdt Vanderhoof, Kirk Arrington, Duke Erickson, and Craig Wells, until ''Masterpeace'' (1999), which reunited the four-fifths of that lineup, with John Marshall replacing Wells. ''Metal Church'' is the debut album by American heavy metal band Metal Church. The album was originally released by the independent record label Ground Zero in 1984. Based on the success of the album, the band was signed to a recording contract by Elektra Records, who reissued it in 1985. The cover art depicts a cruciform Gibson Explorer hidden in shadows and smoke. The album contains a cover of Deep Purple's " Highway Star". The cassette edition and first European vinyl edition contained the bonus track "Big Guns". David Wayne (singer)
David Wayne (January 1, 1958 – May 10, 2005) was an American singer of the heavy metal bands Metal Church, Reverend and Wayne. Biography From 1982 to 1988, Wayne appeared as vocalist on three studio albums and one live album by Metal Church. He was influenced by singers like Rob Halford and has influenced singers like James Hetfield. When he left Metal Church 1988, Wayne formed Reverend, which remained active even after his death. His legacy as a vocalist is captured in Metal Church's only live album, ''Live'', recorded in 1986 in Texas while on tour with Anthrax. He also started a band called Wayne (or David Wayne's Metal Church) after leaving Metal Church and joined ex-Cradle of Filth guitarist Stuart Anstis in Bastardsun.
