Great Hearts Arete Prep (formerly Arete Preparatory Academy (formerly Mesa Preparatory Academy)) is a charter school in Mesa, Arizona. It is part of Great Hearts Academies. In 2014, the school moved to a location in Gilbert. The school changed its name to Great Hearts Arete Prep and its mascot from Monsoons to Chargers. Curriculum The school's curriculum places a heavy emphasis on the Greco-Roman world and classical studies, with students studying Latin in middle school and, if elected, Greek in high school. Athletics Arete Prep (while under the Mesa Prep name) became a full member of the Arizona Interscholastic Association for high school athletics in the 2012-13 school year. Great Hearts Academies is a non-profit charter school management organization that operates a network of primary, middle, and high schools in the Phoenix, Arizona Metropolitan area and in San Antonio, Ft. Worth, and Irving, Texas. Great Hearts Academies has 22,000+ students enrolled for the 2020-2021 school year. Curriculum Great Hearts is a K-12 charter school that offers a humanities-based liberal arts education to the public, tuition free. The Arizona Interscholastic Association (AIA) is one of two regulatory bodies for high school athletics and activities in the state of Arizona. It comprises all of the state's public district high schools (except Ajo High School, Beaver Dam High School and Gila Bend High School), various charter and private schools, plus a full member in Winterhaven, California and an associate member in Nogales, Sonora, Mexico.
