Merz (musician)
Conrad Ewart Lambert, better known as "Merz" is an English multi-instrumentalist, singer and songwriter. He has released six albums. Biography Born Conrad Lambert in Dorset, England, he grew up in West Bretton & Huddersfield, Yorkshire and moved to London in 1992. Merz had three minor hits in 1999 in the UK Singles Chart with ''Many Weathers Apart'', ''Lovely Daughter and Lotus''. Later that same year, his eponymous debut album was released on Epic Records. The album combined elements of 90’s electronica with strains of pastoral folk and drew critical acclaim. However, the commercial success which had been predicted by many in the music industry and press failed to materialise, and Merz withdrew from his recording contract with Epic's parent company, Sony BMG, in 2000. Dorset ( ; archaically: Dorsetshire , ) is a county in South West England on the English Channel coast. South By Southwest
South by Southwest, abbreviated as SXSW and colloquially referred to as South By, is an annual conglomeration of parallel film, interactive media, and music festivals and Convention (meeting), conferences organized jointly that take place in mid-March in Austin, Texas, United States. It began in 1987 and has continued to grow in both scope and size every year. In 2017, the conference lasted for 10 days with the interactive track lasting for five days, music for seven days, and film for nine days. There was no in-person event in 2020 and 2021 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic in Austin, Texas; both years, there was a smaller online event instead. SXSW is run by the company SXSW, LLC, which organizes conferences, trade shows, festivals, and other events. Portishead (band)
Portishead () is an English band formed in 1991 in Bristol. The band is named after Portishead, Somerset, eight miles west of Bristol, along the coast. The band comprises vocalist Beth Gibbons, producer Geoff Barrow, and musician Adrian Utley; Dave McDonald, an engineer on their first records, is sometimes cited as the fourth member. Portishead's debut album, '' Dummy'' (1994), fused hip hop production with yearning vocals from Gibbons and an atmospheric, cinematic style reminiscent of spy film soundtracks. The album was met with commercial and critical acclaim, quickly becoming a landmark album in the emerging trip hop genre. Clive Deamer
Get the Blessing (previously known as the Blessing) are a jazz rock quartet based in Bristol, England. The band formed in 2000 when Jim Barr (bass guitar) and Clive Deamer (drums), who had played with Portishead, joined Jake McMurchie (saxophone) and Pete Judge (trumpet) over their appreciation of Ornette Coleman. Get the Blessing have released six albums; their debut '' All Is Yes'' won best album at the 2008 BBC Jazz Awards. Their album ''Bristopia'' was released in 2018. Style Get the Blessing combines jazz and rock. Goldfrapp are an English electronic music duo from London, formed in 1999. The duo consists of Alison Goldfrapp (vocals, synthesiser) and Will Gregory (synthesiser). Despite favourable reviews and a short-listing for the Mercury Prize, their 2000 début studio album ''Felt Mountain'' did not chart highly. Goldfrapp's second album ''Black Cherry'', which incorporated glam rock and synth-pop sounds into their music, was released in 2003. James Patrick Page (born 9 January 1944) is an English musician who achieved international success as the guitarist and founder of the rock band Led Zeppelin. Robert Plant
Robert Anthony Plant (born 20 August 1948) is an English singer and songwriter, best known as the lead singer and lyricist of the English rock band Led Zeppelin for all of its existence from 1968 until 1980, when the band broke up following the death of John Bonham, the band's drummer. Stephen Charles Jones is a British session bass player, songwriter, record producer, and Grammy Award winner. Career Jones's career as a recording and touring artist has spanned well over three decades. It was originally founded in 1963 by brothers Kingsley and Charles Ward. Facilities Rockfield is a two-studio facility consisting of The Coach House and The Quadrangle. Orbital (band)
Orbital are an English electronic music duo from Otford, Kent, England, consisting of brothers Phil and Paul Hartnoll. The band's name is taken from Greater London's orbital motorway, the M25, which was central to the early rave scene during the early days of acid house. Additionally, the cover art on three of their albums showcase stylised atomic orbitals. Orbital have been critically and commercially successful, known particularly for their live improvisation during shows. They were initially influenced by early electro and punk rock.
